Even Uncle Orson Approves!
Jun. 7th, 2009 12:04 pmI'm thinking about going to see Star Trek again. Yes, that would make four times. And your point is what, exactly? After all, even extremely hard-to-please Orson Scott Card loved it!
His words? I wonder if this might not be the best space-adventure movie ever made.
Seriously...just wow...this film is that good. Sigh...

Date: Jun. 8th, 2009 04:02 am (UTC)And I wish I could go back and see the new Star Trek again. It is on my not to be missed DVD list though. Then I can watch it anytime. Complete with patented JJ Abrams quick cuts that just about make me sick to my stomach.
And OSC did flog the sequels to Ender's Game to death. The original sequels could have been awesome but I got so bogged down in the philosophy (and left the piggies hanging) it got boring.
But the Shadow series was different. He could have compressed them into 2 books instead of 4 but they were very entertaining and resonated a lot with what is going on in the world today.

I do want to see the movie again, but I'm not sure I can justify it. I do have a free movie ticket, though, so we shall see.
And agreed on the Ender and Shadow series. I haven't read the latest Ender book, but otherwise I quite agree with you. Though I did find that the Ender series got better toward the end. Ender's game rocked, then the next couple not so hot for me, but by the last book or two I was back into it. The Jane angle was interesting to me.
