PicoWriMo

So, I didn't do NaNoWriMo this year. Instead, I tried my hand at [livejournal.com profile] picowrimo, a community where you set your own writing goals for the month. And it finally happened. I actually failed at a writing goal. That's new to me. I am one of those people who nearly always finishes what I say I will do. But frankly, that's if I have a goal imposed upon me by someone other than me. Goals I make for myself? Forget it. I change them to suit my whims and rarely actually do them. (I meant to do laundry today, honest!)

That said, I didn't do too badly with pico. )

Nope. Not for me. Not this year. I'm out. I am not, however, out of writing in entirety in November (as if). And I'm not even giving up on the idea of having a writing goal for the month. After all, as someone on Twitter recently said to me, "Sleeping is for December," (not true, we all know December is for The X-Files, but whatever) so I'm in for a wee bit o' writing this month after all. I need a bit of a kick in the pants to write right now, as my life is all crazytown, so I'm doing [livejournal.com profile] picowrimo on the advice of the great and wonderful [livejournal.com profile] lolmac.

Since one sets one's own goals for Pico, I'm setting mine at 100 words a day for five days a week. This allows me leeway on weekends, when work takes up every bit of my time, and doesn't overwhelm me on days when I just don't have much in me. Now, anyone who has been around a while knows that I tend to be an overachiever when it comes to things like this (I "won" my first Nano on November 17. Yeah, it's like that.), so I'm sure you won't be surprised to know that I'm at just over 500 words today. That said, I'm counting that as both Nov 1 and Nov 2, because my sleep schedule makes my "days" a bit different than those on the calendar. I wrote 300 words last night, and 200 words today as far as my body is concerned. Therefore, we're golden. More to come! Expect a fic a day, as I did back in May 2008 (ah, Firefly, how you changed my life) and December 2007 (ah, SG-1, how truly beholden to you I am),  but there might be a few lapses here and there, as I have two non-fiction pieces to do this week that actually have a deadline. Love to all and write on, my friends. Write on.

Well, you're just over half way through November now. You should be at, oh, 26,672 words by tonight.

I hope you're plugging along well, but just in case you need something with which to procrastinate, I present this lovely vid. I found it a few weeks ago, and though I'm not doing NaNoWriMo this year, I absolutely love it. So true, so funny, and so well-done. Enjoy!

The End!

Only it's not. Unlike last year when I reached 50K, this story is not done. It's nearly done, but not quite. And of course it needs serious editing. In order to make myself do just that and to end the suspense, I'll let you in on a little secret. Part of my editing will involve research into the power source for the Stargate. After all, how could MacGyver fix it if I don't know exactly how it's broken? Just sayin.

So, I caught up on NaNoWriMo again today. I had fallen a bit behind.

And then I got this for Cold Blooded. What a great day. Cheers!

The day wabbit caught up to pace for NaNoWriMo.

Still no hints on fandom, folks.

So far, though, it's writing itself. Got to love that.

Decided to jump on board after all! Here we go! I started NaNoWriMo 2009 Nov 3 at about 1900.

Updates will be in the word counter on the left in general, as I already outdated my earlier post, and here for big ones. I don't think I'm going to go nuts and write 5K a day for now. Instead, I'd like to catch up by doing 2K a day for the next bit and then go a bit slower than last year if I can. Then again, that idea didn't work very well last time (I just looked-I finished on Nov 17), so...we'll see! This year, at this point, I'm writing a long fanfic. No clues as to fandom yet. See you on the other side.

Well, the official validation counter is up...and to hell with a cut...it's a viking pirate ship!  HA!
