So, I don't ship Steve/Tony at all (if for no other reason than because it has a name like "Stony"), but this is a brilliant vid*. So pretty! Lyrics are NSFW.

*Okay, so there was that one time in the comics, when...oh, never mind. *evil grin*

I love this piece of art. I first saw it over on Wil Wheaton's bloggity-blog, and I immediately saved it for posting later. Alas, tonight I am cleaning up my desktop, so here we are. Please clickie to embiggen, as the phrase goes. It's well worth it. See how many characters you recognize! It's a fun game, and I'm completely stoked to see Stargate represented. The message matters to me, too. The idea of being one of the ones that "get it" and finding other like-minded folk just makes me smile. Of course, the fact that my favorite ninja turtle is right up front doesn't hurt my enjoyment of this one bit, either. *grin*

The Ones I Picked Out of the Crowd... )
jackwabbit: (Marvel)
Yes, I know most have already seen it, but I just have to share.

Finally, the Avengers trailer!

Now, I could spend a lot of time typing out my thoughts on this, but they are nearly exactly mimicked by my fellow SFX blogger Alasdair Stuart, so I will share his reaction instead. Go here for his blog on this bit of lovely.

The too long, didn't read version of said blog that I just adore. )

Marvelous!

It's rare that I see a film more than once at the theater.

Yes, I saw Star Trek XI thrice, but it's not a common thing.

That said, I just may have to go see the one I saw yesterday again. And maybe again after that. Which film? The one with the boy wizard? No, though I quite loved Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part Two, as well. No, this one, well, I've been waiting for this one. So much so that I thought it couldn't live up to my expectations. Unfortunately, that seems to be my luck this year. (I'm looking at you, Thor. Yes, you were perfectly acceptable, but you were missing that certain "je ne sais quoi" that would have made you special.) So anyway, about that... I was wrong. This movie was wonderful. So, which one, then? Why... CAPTAIN AMERICA!

Dude. I've been excited for this film for a while, but it surpassed every expectation I had. The costumes were drop-dead gorgeous. The score was pitch-perfect. The fight scenes were things of absolute beauty.
Chris Evans nailed Steve Rogers perfectly, and the transformation of his body via both digital effects and his own efforts should be commended. Hugo Weaving was utterly brilliant as Red Skull. And Dominic Cooper pulled off Howard Stark pretty damn well, too. The ending didn't wimp out but instead touched upon what a brutally tortured existence life is for Steve Rogers.

Yes, like Harry Potter, the film form of Captain America took some liberties with canon, but I'm relatively unburdened with Cap canon, so I enjoyed the hell out of the movie even with the few tweaks I noticed. (Um...Bucky? Love the costume reminiscent of your first, but weren't you...oh, never mind. It works just fine this way.)

But seriously, this movie was great fun, and I'd love to watch it again. I mean, after all, I haven't mentioned my favorite part.

*ahem*

The shield went "TWANG!" when it hit stuff! :D

We're good, people. Excelsior!

I'm not one to watch Comic-Con too closely, but I have been entertained by Marvel's daily unveiling of the concept art of a new Avenger or two, and now that they've all come together, well, dude. This looks cool. But even more intriguing to me than the main characters are the two people behind Nick Fury. Clearly the man is Agent Coulson, already introduced in the Marvel movieverse, but who is the woman? My brain immediately guessed Maria Hill, and while I really wanted to spend some time speculating, a quick Google search revealed that I was right.

Interesting...very interesting...Tony Stark, you are completely screwed, my man. Completely. Screwed.
