So, this post is about someone famous-like who just did something nice for a friend.

And shocker of shockers, it's not Paul McGillion for once. Nope. Honest. It's not. It's Joss Whedon.

You know you want to click it! )

When I returned from Dragon*Con last month, I was asked if I would be interested in writing a short piece on it for SFX magazine. My response? Hells yeah! I wrote the piece on a short deadline and completely forgot about it after a few days of freaking out because the mag was paying me for it.

In packing up a few last things for my trip, I threw the latest issue of SFX into my carry-on. Figured it would make good plane reading material. Then I remembered my article! My very first ever piece of paid writing was due to be in this issue! I opened the mag and found it! Right there on page 39 is little old me! Not just my words, but little old Jedi Chef me too!

Check it out!

Look Cleo! It's your lightsaber! I went with green after all! And that's my parade shot - I took it myself!

And check out the italics in the last line on the left. What does that say? I can't quite make it out. Blowncats Revolution? Something like that. Maybe [livejournal.com profile] mcdougherty or [livejournal.com profile] ceosanna can help?

Oh, and my very favorite werewolf (yes, more than Henry on Sanctuary and even Remus in Harry Potter), George from Being Human graces the bottom of this page! SWEET!

PS-I'm really leaving now, but you know...I haz iPhone, so...not really...

jackwabbit: (Mal/Inara-Drink Up!)
(Well, actually, the peeps at Dragon*Con at the Redemption panel saw it first (yours truly included-squee!), and then it got posted to Twitter by @browncoatsmovie five minutes ago, but that's beside the point! Here be the first trailer for Redemption! Enjoy! And spread the word why don't ya?)

Remember that Geek Channel bit? Well, here's a start!

I think even MacGyver would be proud of these folks! (This one's called "How to Build a Spaceship - On a Budget.")

A while ago, I posted about a new Firefly fan film here.  In case you missed that post, here's an recap.  Big Damn Fan Films is making a new Firefly fan film entitled Browncoats: Redemption.  The film is being made to maintain and increase interest in the Firefly universe and to raise money for charity.  All proceeds from the film will benefit Kids Need to Read, Equality Now, The Dyslexia FoundationThe Al Wooten Jr. Heritage Center, and The Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation.   Big Damn Fan Films has the support of Joss Whedon himself for this project and to show their determination to their cause, they have already started an earnest campaign to raise funds for their chosen charities.

Their Facebook Causes page for Kids Need to Read
was started in late November 2008.  Their goal is to raise $3500 for KNTR before February 11, 2009.  They want to help send Kids Need to Read to Dragon*Con in Atlanta, Georgia this fall.  Dragon*Con is the largest fan-run science fiction/fantasy convention in the United States, and KNTR's presence there would be a huge help for fundraising and letting the world know what our organziation does.  Big Damn Fan Film's goal is lofty, but they're already well on their way to acheiving it.  On the film front, their movie has a script and a crew, and casting calls have gone out.  On the charity front, as of today, they have raised $1101 for KNTR.  Our hat is off to Michael Dougherty and Big Damn Fan Films.  They've given KNTR a huge leg-up for attending Dragon*Con already, and we can't wait to see how their film turns out!
