I was sent this via Twitter, so I gave it a go.

A diagram of a "Hall of Heroes" for women in sci-fi. The pic is here. How many do you know?

List 10 tv shows/movies/books
-- Have your friends guess your favourite characters from each one.
-- Cross out the show/movie/book and put the character in when someone guesses.

Oh, why not? Some earthshatteringly easy and some hard, because again, why not?

1-Star Trek (whatever series you want to guess for, and I'll tell you if you're right - TNG (Riker) has been guessed by [livejournal.com profile] lemonpiefirefly - still leaves four series to go if we want to cheat the meme a bit - and I'm game for that. [livejournal.com profile] poisonyoulove added Spock from TOS and Janeway from VOY. [livejournal.com profile] sonria added Trip from ENT because TRIP! That leaves DS9 - hard!).
2-The X-Files (Scully, [livejournal.com profile] lemonpiefirefly)
3-Arrow (Felicity, [livejournal.com profile] xfirefly9x)
4-Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (May, [livejournal.com profile] lolmac)
5-Farscape (Aeryn, [livejournal.com profile] xfirefly9x)
6-Babylon 5
7-Stargate Atlantis (Carson, [livejournal.com profile] lemonpiefirefly)
8-Star Wars (Luke, [livejournal.com profile] lolmac)
9-Talespin (Kit Cloudkicker, [livejournal.com profile] taj_mahal07)
10-Harry Potter (Luna, [livejournal.com profile] poisonyoulove)

Because sometimes we all need a pep talk:

I may or may not have bought Space Jam today, and this video may or may not have had a hand in that. I also may or may not use the phrase "not cool, Robert Frost" way too often in my normal conversation, but I'm so not ashamed of that. *grin* Kid President is one of the best things to happen to the internet in ages, and if you're not familiar with him, go check him out. Start with this vid, a relative oldie, but a goodie, and go from there.

20 - Jedi or Sith

Have you been paying any attention at all? Probably not, but if you have, you don't need me to answer this question. I'll do it anyway, though. Suffice to say there has never been any doubt whatsoever in this regard. From day one, my allegiance was clear, and it has never wavered.

JEDI.

19 - Favorite Battle

Yavin. As much as I love Endor, Yavin nudges it out, because even with as many times as I've seen it, I still get nervous when that little red wedge reaches the planet as the Death Star comes into firing range. There seems to be genuine peril involved. I'm still worried that Han won't show back up, and I'm sad for R2-D2 when he gets blasted. I'm touched by C-3PO's organ donation offer, too, for that matter. But mostly, I love Luke Skywalker saving the day by using the Force. This was all new to us then, and it still gets me now.

18 - Favorite Duo/Friendship

In light of something I've just written tonight, this is an ironic question. You'll see why later, but for now, suffice to say that said piece of writing details much about a certain Skywalker and why I love him more than a certain Solo. It's ironic that I wrote that tonight and am answering this question now because Luke and Han are my favorite duo by a long shot. Yes, Han and Chewie are wonderful, but nothing beats Han and Luke for me. I love Luke's journey from "boy" to "Luke" to "buddy" in Star Wars, and "That's right, and my friend's out in it!" gets me every time in Empire. And Luke's rescue of Han in Jedi, with its subsequent snarky dialogue, just fills me with glee. These two are opposite sides of the same coin, and they come together to form the whole perfectly. Chewie, to me, is probably a lot like Luke in that he is Han's conscience. (Do you really think Han came back to Yavin on his own? Yeah, I've never believed that for a second. Give Chewbacca a medal!) However, we don't really get to know that due to Chewie's limited vocal communication, and we come into that friendship when it's already formed. We don't get to see the journey, like we do with Luke and Han, and that journey is worth its weight, my friends. Also, I think Han and Chewie are a more alike than different. Sure, Chewie is Han's conscience, but he's also still a smuggler and he owes Han a life debt, so he's bound to Han in a way that is different than pure friendship. Not so with Luke. Luke and Han forge their bond on their own, and it's a beautiful thing. So, for me, it's Han and Luke all the way. No question.

17 - Funniest Scene

To be honest, there isn't much laugh-out-loud humor in Star Wars, at least not to me. There are fun remarks about "professors" and "nerfherders" and "laserbrains," and I love them all, but the line that gets me every time?

Han: "I think my eyes are getting better. Instead of a big, dark blur, I see a big, light blur."
Luke: "There's nothing to see. I used to live here, you know."
Han: "You're gonna die here, you know. Convenient."

16 - Favorite Villain

Is this a trick question? Because, I mean, seriously. Got to go with "the blackest brother in the galaxy." I'll spell it out, in case you somehow can't figure out that description, but seriously? Yeah.

Darth Vader.

15 - A character you wish was in the saga more.

Lando. It'd be fun to know more about a lot of things about that pirate-turned-businessman.

Also? She makes a good point.

I'd add a few reasons of my own to her list, though. *grin* Namely:

He doesn't waste time with the chain of command when it matters: "We've got to be able to get some sort of reading on that shield, up or down... how can they be jamming us if they don't know... that we're coming? Break off the attack! The shield is still up! ... PULL UP! ALL CRAFT, PULL UP!"

He stands up to said chain of command when needed: "You won't get another chance at this, Admiral!"

He's realistic: "We'll last longer than we will against that Death Star! And we might just take a few of them with us!"

And he's confident in his friends: "Han will have that shield down! We've got to give him more time!"

14 - A moment that breaks your heart

Well, this be the one that makes me reach for the EU. Honestly, there isn't a moment in the OT (or the PT, either, for that matter) that I would describe as heartbreaking. Heart stretching, perhaps, but there's just no rending there for me.

But when Mara Jade is forced to destroy the Jade's Fire, the only thing she's ever really owned in her life, I grieved with her. I remember reading this scene like it was yesterday, and I'm not ashamed to admit I cried for that ship... and for Mara.
