Even Uncle Orson Approves!
Jun. 7th, 2009 12:04 pmI'm thinking about going to see Star Trek again. Yes, that would make four times. And your point is what, exactly? After all, even extremely hard-to-please Orson Scott Card loved it!
His words? I wonder if this might not be the best space-adventure movie ever made.
Seriously...just wow...this film is that good. Sigh...

*gloats happily*
I think Card, like the early Piers Anthony, tended to get a good idea, write one or two really good books, and then flog the damned thing to muddy, miserable death. I loved the original Ender's Game -- the short story! -- and skipped the book because I couldn't see that extending it to novel length could ever be more than a step sideways. I did enjoy Speaker For the Dead, but not enough to buy it. And I loved the first Alvin Maker book: Seventh Son is still on my re-read list. So is Songmaster (which included homoerotic themes. Go figure.)

I agree with your assessment of his works, too, from what I've read. I loved Ender's Game, and I really liked Ender's Shadow (quite possibly more than Ender's Game) but the others? Meh.
