And then there were eight...
Feb. 22nd, 2009 10:37 pmI so thought I was done playing on the interwebs tonight, but, well, I'm not. Why?
BECAUSE THE ROUND OF EIGHT HAS JUST OPENED FOR VOTING AT THE SECRETARY OF GEEK AFFAIRS SITE!
Whoa. Sorry. Got a little excited. But who can blame me when these exciting battles are coming up?
Watch as Kaylee Frye dukes it out with Simon Pegg for the Do'urden crown while over in Bombadil John Hodgman takes on Gabe and Tycho! Feel your pulse pound as Joss Whedon does battle with the sleeper Felicia Day and cheer as Wil Wheaton takes on Steve Wozniak fresh on the heels of his victory over none other than Stephen Hawking! That round showed us every vote counts! Make your voice heard! Go vote!

Date: Feb. 23rd, 2009 06:38 pm (UTC)I voted for Felicia, because while Joss writes shows for geeks, I think Felicia is more of a geek in real life. This was a really tough call for me, and I thought a LOT about it. I hated to go against the creator, but the deciding factor was that Felicia did The Guild all on her own and such while Joss did what was expected of him as a third-generation TV writer. Yes, his shows have rocked, but it's still what his father and grandfather did. Felicia's initiative to make something great (and totally unrelated to her job as a violinist) out of nothing pushed me over to her side. I mean, Dr. Horrible is the same thing, but it was modeled on The Guild, and Joss already had the contacts to do it, so it wasn't so much of a sacrifice for him. And also...Felicia's friends with Wil, but that was less a factor than the fact that if we gave Joss Whedon that much power Barack Obama would no longer be President. Sasha or Malia would be in charge. So much for a cute little puppy for the White House. They'd have a big Rottweiler at their side and they'd be toting big huge guns and kicking everyone's ass! (Thinking on it now, that might be fun to see...Joss's brand of feminism on a global scale!)
I voted for Simon Pegg because he's Simon Pegg (OMG! SPACED! HATES EPISODE ONE! LOVES GILLIAN ANDERSON!) and because he's a real person. Also, I'm not sure Kaylee is a geek. She knows her engines and such, but she's also pretty damn cool, loves high society, etc...just not sure.
I voted for Gabe and Tycho because Penny Arcade rocks.
And on that last one, well...ahem...I voted for Wil.
BTW, Wil beat Hawking by less than 100 votes! THAT was a tight race. Looks like Whedon/Day is going to be another nailbiter!

Date: Feb. 23rd, 2009 10:18 pm (UTC)I think I have to agree with the guy who said this:
At some point I suppose it should matter to me that Stephen Hawking is not a US citizen and therefore is probably not going to be allowed to hold this office - should it ever exist and the appointee chosen via online voting tournament. Since I am torn here, I will say that the time for this to matter is now.
Fair enough. I'm sure Stephen will understand indeed.

Date: Feb. 23rd, 2009 11:44 pm (UTC)I love my friends!
p.s.-the citizenship point is moot in the case of Pegg because Kaylee isn't a US citizen, either.

Date: Feb. 23rd, 2009 11:48 pm (UTC)I understand your thoughts on Pegg. But he gets my vote much for the same reason Felicia did. Spaced was all him and Jessica, so...love them! And citizenship doesn't matter in this battle because neither person is from the States.
As for that last part, why am I seeing a comic book cover?
Like the classic Wolverine-Sabretooth one...
WHEDON V. DAY! THE BATTLE OF THE CENTURY!

Date: Feb. 24th, 2009 01:07 am (UTC)I agree that would be fun, but OMG SPACED! I had to vote for Pegg.
Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, and once again OMG SPACED!
He's probably the only person that can be forgiven for bumping Pauley out of the Scotty role. *grumble, grumble...still wanted Pauley, though...but I do love Simon, so I'll live*
