Finally...

It wasn't much, but I'll take it.  Just in from seeing Wolverine, but anyone who knows me and knows anything about the film knows that I went to see another mutant.



Bottom line?  I enjoyed the film for what it was (I wasn't expecting a masterpiece, guys) and all in all, I'm happy.  'Cuz, really, I just have one thing to say:  Long.  Live.  GAMBIT.

So, Gambit...sigh...I love him more than anything in the X-Men universe.  Remy LeBeau is a downright rogue, and we all know how I feel about them.  Once again...sigh...anyway.  We didn't get to see much of him (and I knew that) but what we saw seemed right to me.  Taylor Kitsch was well-cast as my favorite Cajun (Johnny Depp would've done well, too, though...just sayin...though for a prequel he might be a bit old), and frankly just seeing Gambit on the big screen gave me glee.  And, well, that's all, really.   Rest of the film?  Basic comic book sequel type movie and enjoyable for me with that hat on.  (Don't think too much - you'll hurt your brain.)  BUT THERE WAS REMY!  And that's really all it takes to make me happy, folks.  Here's another piccie for your thief-loving pleasure:

I am sooo looking forward to seeing this movie. Glad to know that it was definitly enjoyable. Like you, not expecting a masterpiece, but I love the XMen movies for what they are. Fun.

Agreed. X1 was brilliant. X2 was pretty good. X3 was mediocre.

Not sure where I'd put this one if I had to give it a rating, but honestly, I enjoyed it and I was able to completely turn my brain off for a few hours, which I sorely needed.

And, you know, there was Gambit, so, well...I'm good.

You know, sometimes a movie where you can totally shut off the brain is a very good thing. And something that I really need. I'm off tomorrow, I may see if I can get my best friend to go to the matinee with me.

Hey, saw this Fri night too. Eye candy, which was nice, escapism, which was essential, feral Wolverine, also nice, but yeah...I had forgotten that Gambit was going to be in this one so I was *stoked* when I saw him, and really enjoyed the bits they had him in. Hali's take (as you may recall, heavy collector of all things X),"Well, at least they stayed true to the line of making every single thing up, for the most part. But hey, I enjoyed it anyway." Unburdened by much canon knowledge of X-universe, I enjoyed its entertainment value.

I'm only slightly educated in X, so I could look at this with weak eyes (except for where Gambit is concerned, and even then I'm still only a middleweight on the myth), and thus enjoy it.

See, the thing is, though, with comic book movies everyone forgets that comics themselves are full of continuity errors, etc.

Thus the infamous No Prize.

No one (not even Stan Lee himself or even Larry Hama) can keep fifty or seventy or even just twenty years of myth in their head. And with different artists and writers constantly coming and going, there are ALWAYS incongruencies in comics.

It's part of their charm.

So, to those who pick things apart, I say: get over it.

Agreed. Even Hali was quite zen about the whole thing.

I trust wabbit to tell me all I need to know about most comic things.

Entertainment is entertainment.
And Gambit was fun.

Oh, and re: Wolverine... I saw an interview in which Hugh Jackman said, laughing, that his wife was commenting on all the working out he was doing and told him something to the effect of "I don't even know who you are anymore.......
Now, GET INTO MY BED!"

Zen and No Prizes are love.

And Hugh Jackman, well...he doesn't do anything for me. I know this is odd, but nada. Zip. Zilch.

I did have a funny thought when Wolvie was running through the prison and releasing the mutants that I appreciate the effort Hugh took to make his body all it can be and how it's amazing what a body can be, but other than that, nah. I appreciated Hugh as a model of athletic training, but nothing else. Much like Brad Pitt in Fight Club. I bow to the effort, but I am not attracted to it other than to admire the workout routine, diet, and effort.

I personally am not a big fan of veiny, and Hugh as Wolverine (though badass) is not Hugh. That having been said, 1) Hugh as less-pumped-but-fit, leggy, theatrical smirkmeister does, indeed, 'do something' for me.
2) I can appreciate the idea of coming home to the man you already love and embrace and finding out he's, um, temporarily optimized.

True on both. And Hugh CAN sing, which gives him serious bonus points. And he wasn't quite to veiny grossness, even in this film. Just all a human can be. Optimized, as you say.
