Summary: Patrick has to take a solo trip. David doesn’t love that. But it does have its advantages.

“Do you have to go?” whined David.

“You know I do,” said Patrick, sighing.

“OK. I’ll see you in a few days.”

Patrick nodded.

“Yeah. I’ll be back on Monday.”

“Only because you don’t trust me to open the store on time.”

Patrick grinned.

“Hey, if the shoe fits.”

David smacked Patrick with a pillow.

“Just for that,” said David, “I’m not walking you to the door.”

Patrick chuckled. “I never expected you would.”

“I might’ve. But now I’m staying right here, thank you very  much.”

“OK. I’ll see you when I get back.”

“Bye,” answered David, giving Patrick a kiss to send him on his way.

Patrick turned and sauntered out the door in a way that almost made David call him back.

But instead, David just snorted.

Because he realized he’d become a cliché – that the old saying was true.

He hated to see Patrick go.

But he loved to watch him leave.

Especially on a cold January morning when he was still bundled in bed; when that retreating backside gave him such delicious ideas of how he could spend his time.

David grinned.

Then he pulled the blankets up, rolled over, and went right back to sleep.
