Personal Trainers

Fandom: Schitt’s Creek
Rated: G
Category: Triple Drabble. David/Patrick. Banter.
Time Frame: After season four. Probably quite a ways after season four in my mind. Like, middle age.
Spoilers: None/general series knowledge only.
Summary: Patrick can be sneaky when he wants to be. He just needs the proper motivation. And David isn’t actually super naïve. But he doesn’t mind seeming that way. He also just needs the proper motivation. (AKA: The one where Patrick tricks David into new habits, and David lets him. Because training really is very personal, thanks.)
Note: Written for the random word prompt of “salad.”

-----

“What is this?” asked David, looking disdainfully at the plate Patrick slid in front of him.

“I think you’ve had a salad before, David,” answered Patrick, sitting down across from him at the makeshift table in the store’s backroom that served as a break room.

“Yes, but…”

“It’s good for you,” mumbled Patrick, taking a bite of his own greens.

He wasn’t really paying attention. It had been a busy day, and he’d just popped over to the café and picked up two salad plates for lunch. Now, he just wanted to get this article read before the afternoon crowd started trickling in.

So he didn’t notice David pushing his food around without eating it until he spoke again.

“There’s no meat.”

Patrick looked up.

“David, not everything has to have meat in it.”

“But I wanted a burger.”

“It won’t kill you to have something green for once.”

“I had green tea this morning!”

Patrick gave David a look.

“If you want something else, you know where the café is.”

“I’m not walking there in these shoes!”

Patrick didn’t look up. He’d gone back to his article.

“I’m not going, David.”

“Fine,” huffed David, begrudgingly taking a bite of his salad. “But we’re having burgers tomorrow.”

“Okay,” said Patrick, smirking.

Since Patrick was reading, David didn’t notice the expression.

They did indeed have burgers the next day.

But Patrick kept getting salads at least once a week.

So David ate healthier at least once a week.

He also walked to the café when he didn’t trust Patrick with his order.

And Patrick continued to smirk when David wasn’t looking.

David figured things out a lot sooner than he let on, but he let Patrick have his fun.

After all, David smirked these days, too. Mostly at his new waistline.

A/N: I know salads often aren’t really healthy. But you take the point. And it was better than any other idea that prompt might conjure!
