One thing about Ricky: he never complained.
Not even when one of his arms was so tightly entrapped in Paul’s fist that the knuckles were even whiter than usual.

Paul eventually took a deep breath and let go of Ricky’s arm.
But he didn’t let go entirely.
Not until after a hug and another deep breath at any rate.
One day, perhaps, a simple comm message from the current captain of Discovery wouldn’t have this effect on its resident astromycologist.
But today was not that day.
And until then, Ricky stood ready.
Or at least sat not-so-haphazardly within easy reach.
