Summary: Someone once said to me that sometimes you need therapy, and sometimes you just need to talk. I think that’s pretty true. And Hugh needs to talk.
Note: Another Ricky story, because I just can’t help myself. Sorry I'm a day late. It's the first time for that. It probably won't be the last. Still...sorry.

A snorting sniffle breaks the silence.
It’s followed by a voice thick with emotion.
“And then he said I was a… a…”
The next word is whispered, too low to be understood by any but the closest ears. Then there’s another sniffle, and finally, a small whine.
Hugh’s mother stands outside the door, hearing all of this and wanting to comfort her son, but also knowing him well enough to understand that sometimes he needs time alone when he’s like this.
She’s much quieter about it, but her heart is breaking as much as Hugh’s – granted for an entirely different reason. After all, her first serious boyfriend hadn’t just left her. But since her son’s had, it was nearly the same thing.
She lays a hand on the door control panel, but then pulls it away.
‘Not yet,’ she tells herself. ‘Later – with comfort food.’
So she turns away, heading toward the kitchen. It’s hard, but she knows it’s right.
‘And besides,’ she thinks, ‘Hugh isn’t exactly alone in there.’
He does have a sympathetic ear. It’s covered in snot – and fur – but it’s always served him well.
And so she smiles sadly, and is glad, once again, for Ricky.
