Of Photobuckets and Photons

Or something like that. Bottom line: I was one of the many affected by the recent changes at Photobucket.

Many of my pics are no longer accessible from third party sites and are now the ugly Photobucket "please updated your account" things.

Well...nope. Not going to happen. I'm switching over to another photo hosting site, and I've taken out my sidebar pics, as I wasn't OMG attached to them or anything anymore anyway. (How's that for a group of "anys"?) But I'm not going to go back and fix old entries or anything like that, and I'm not bothering with LJ, even in the sidebar. I figure I'll preserve the code there just in case I ever want to go back and edit it to another site or whatever.

Just an FYI, and I'm sorry older things might be ugly.

I'm not bothering with fixing any of my previously posted via Photobcuket on LJ/Dreamdwidth images, either. There's waaaaaaay too many of them to even try to fix them. I'm so annoyed by this whole thing with them. At the very least they could have done something so that it wouldn't effect currently uploaded photos but from X point on, you'd have to have a membership for $400/year to upload anything else.

Also, I apparently got an email but it went to my spam folder. :|

Exactly. I mean, a small fee? OK. Sure. Maybe. But $400? I don't think so. Especially without any type of real notice and no grandfathering in of old pics. Whatever. Ugh.

Not grandfathering in old pictures is like a slap in the face to their longtime users. Yes, they have the right to change their policies. But to do this with barely any notice and expect people to pay such a high amount?

No one in their right mind is going to pay $400 for a photo hosting service. Anyone who can afford that kind of payment is far more likely to spend it on a vacation, house, food...something more responsible.

yeah, I deleted my photobuckt after I heard about that (after my browser almost crashed from all the ads lol) since i hadn't used it in years. (although i did download one thing i'd forgotten i'd uploaded to that site)

I'm attempting to fix at least my action figure pictures, as I have them so neatly listed and ordered by fandom. In all the other places (Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter) it's just all mixed up.

I hadn't been happy for a while with some of the early choices for naming the folders that I made back in 2008, so it is a good idea to start fresh and do it proper.

Still, it was quite an unpleasant surprise. Happened on a weekend I was in London for a convention. Came home to this mess. I wonder if they even know (or care) how many forums and blog posts they have crashed. Knowledge that is lost forever. Seems they were rather targeting the big commercial companies.

On a side note, I had not known that people even used Photobucket for their ebay and Amazon pictures. I always uploaded to ebay directly.

I just fixed the sidebar here. I might fix my Rebel Legion stuff. Everything else is a lost cause.

I never used Photobucket much, but even my limited use was enough to mess some stuff up. Oh, well.
