Really? REALLY?
Feb. 6th, 2009 08:34 pmThis is both a match made in heaven and a special ring of the special hell.
Dear Buddha, please bring me a pirate and a, well, another pirate...
For the record, I have not yet voted. This requires some thought, people!
My first impulse is simply to say that, well, Han came first.
That said:
They both shot first, dammit. But Mal edges out Han as he's done it a few more times.
They've both got snark out the wazoo, but Mal adds Firefly-speak, which skyrockets him upward.
Neither has any love for the Empire, but Mal was always a Rebel, whereas Han once fought with the baddies.
And if one brings in the actors:
Han is played by Harrison Ford, who's not only great friends with Jimmy Buffett but also worshiped by the younger Fillion. He has some cred here. Then again, I love that Fillion like he loves the Ford.
And Harrison Ford has never done anything particularly nice for me. The same cannot be said of Nathan Fillion.
And speaking of niceness, I love the elder Fillion, too.
And that PJ guy who hangs with them sometimes? Well, he totally rocks.
So:
It's Mal, folks. Dear Jedi in heaven forgive me, but it's Mal.
Besides, we all know I'm a Luke fan.

Date: Feb. 7th, 2009 09:05 pm (UTC)I think. Though I think the crew of Voyager might argue that Janeway's morals, at least in the beginning, were a pain in the ass, and they might've liked to have Kirk at the helm for that whole Caretaker dilemma. No getting stranded for him!
But it's tough. In the grand finals of Kirk v Picard, as it always is, for me it's Picard all the way. That pains me, as I wouldn't give TNG a chance at first due to me thinking you couldn't replace Kirk and TOS, but it's so true. Jean-Luc rocks!
For completeness sake, I have to say that I do not know Archer well enough to place him. But he has a dog, which does give him props! Also, note that captain order is not series order!

Date: Feb. 8th, 2009 09:14 am (UTC)I voted for Mal, too -- before I peeked to see where your vote went. Partly because, although both of them totally rock, Mal's more the space cowboy (specific sub-species). And partly because Harrison Ford is magnificent at many other roles, and gets a different Best Ever trophy from me.
