Wherein Allison Scagliotti Nails It
Feb. 10th, 2014 01:17 amThe best thing I heard anyone say at Dallas Comic-Con this weekend:
Well said, @allisonscag. Well said indeed. (My bold, obviously.)
"Before I joined this show, fresh out of community college, I had no idea what sci-fi fandom was. I didn't... I kind of had a vague idea of what ComicCon might be, but I didn't really know. And...and it's because of Warehouse 13 that I've been introduced to this incredible culture of passionate people who don't care what anyone else thinks. You guys like what you like and you get together and like stuff together, and that's the coolest thing ever! And the fact that we get to be the object of your affection is such an honor, because we do what we do out of passion and the fact that we get to share it with you and you share your passion with us is the most beautiful relationship I can imagine, so thank you so much for your support."
-Allison Scagliotti, Dallas Comic-Con's Sci-Fi Expo, February 9, 2014
And the honorable mention goes to Peter Weller, for his words to a female teenage Robocop cosplayer:
"Who says Robocop can't be a girl - a sixteen-year-old girl? Not me!"
More to come later, but suffice to say, these comments win for today. Good night, all.

How was Benedict? Another friend of mine, who I've met at her home in the Midlands, was coincidentally staying at the hotel where the con was. How funny is that?

Date: Feb. 10th, 2014 07:09 pm (UTC)I am just back home, I did a post yesterday with some wonderful cosplay pictures, and will write more about the con yet. Benedict was as nice and charming as everyone always said and it was great to see it first hand. He even did something for me when I said "please" which the woman next to him in the autograph session first refused. I will talk about it more when I post my picture.
He also was cold ;) Apparently he came from LA where it is a bit warmer at the moment.
For me the great thing about fandom is that you suddenly realize you are not alone. For a long time you think you are the only crazy person in the world loving this special thing. And then you find out by coincidence that your friend watches Doctor Who also but you never would have asked her about it. And when the 50th anniversary aired in the cinemas, over 30 of them had it on in Germany, and they all were booked out within minutes. Everyone was surprised about that as it seems not that well known, as for long it was not on German TV and now is only on a pay TV channel. So where are all those people hiding?
