It didn’t matter in the grand scheme of things.
But it made him feel like an outsider… like an imposter.
He knew it had been destroyed, but that only made it worse, because it had been destroyed with… him.
So he didn’t say anything - just grumbled under his breath when he used a generic spare.
He didn’t think anyone heard him.
But apparently grumblers understand grumbling, and when Rodney replaced that spare with the same model stethoscope as his old favorite, Carson could’ve hugged him.
He didn’t, of course, but Rodney’s smile told him he got the message just fine.
