jackwabbitSo, it's be a long time since I was completely caught up in a show. Since I keep thinking about the latest episode long after it aired. Since I watch the episodes more than once before the next one even airs. But Defiance has snared me, and this week's episode is part of why. I want to write up some words about the lovely, but I just haven't found the time yet. So, for now, this little ditty from the pilot (which I'm rewatching right now), will have to do.
"This'll be just like Kansas City."
"You got knifed in Kansas City."
"This is a completely different situation."
"Hey, Doc. How you doin' up there?"
"I you rush me, we all go boom. If you yell at me, we all go boom. Now you know how I'm doing up here."

Now, as for any Firefly comparison, just...I'm not really feeling it. Yes, there are aspects of the show that are Firefly-eque, but I also see Eureka, Farscape, and many others. I had heard many people say Defiance looked like Firefly before I watched it, and while I didn't see the comparison at all at first, I agree now that there are some similarities. But Defiance is a completely different beast and I'm treating it as such.
Bottom line? Great characters, and that always wins.
EDIT: Oh, but what *did* feel a *lot* like Firefly? The impending sense of them taking this show from us. I'm so relieved it got a second season already!

Date: Jun. 21st, 2013 06:14 pm (UTC)True, I started Defiance because a lot of people kept calling it Firefly-like, but... other than a few similarities, I wouldn't quite call it that. I'm seeing tinyyyy bits of Firefly, but only tiny bits (such as that quote last comment). More Eureka than Firefly, really. What bits remind you of Farscape? And yep, as you said, "completely different beast". I'm treating it as such too. (Nothing will ever compete with Firefly anyway. ;))

I saw tiny bits of Firefly at first, but there are a lot of pieces of other shows, too, and they really shouldn't be called bits of other shows but use of tropes, you know? But as for Firefly, I see it more now, and I could likely go on and on about the similarities and differences of both antiheroes here, but I won't right now. I have to get to sleep for work tonight. :-/
But Farscape? The integration of alien species in a real and believable way. The fact that aliens are actually alien, so to speak. It's Rockne's show, and it shows.
And yes to second season and no I don't play the game. I don't game at all, and though I've been tempted to start a bit lately, I haven't done so. And Defiance is too expensive to start there. ;) Though I am sorely tempted...

Ah, yep. Now you've said that, I don't know how I didn't figure that one. XD
We were going to wait to buy til either the break we're currently on or til it went down in price... It went on sale recently, and there was a free shipping deal for spending a certain amount ... so. Erm. yes. It should arrive any day now. (We also ordered Halo 4, Bioshock Infinite, Supernatural Anime, Tom & Jerry Vol 1.)
