Some of you may not know that they've been playing two episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation in movie theaters every few months to coincide with the release of the various seasons on Blu-Ray. I've been going to these one-night-only events with [livejournal.com profile] taj_mahal07. We've seen season one and season two's offerings, and we've been waiting for season three's. The problem is, that's when Next Gen got really good. What episodes to pick? There really is only one choice, though, for one of the episodes. You've got to do "Best of Both Worlds, Part One." But Part Two is season four. Do you just leave it at the cliffhanger and pick some other random season three episode to play? Or do you do two events? One for two other episodes and one bridging the two seasons and giving us the entire Best of Both Worlds arc? I was hoping they'd do the latter, and it appears they have, despite not giving us two more episodes ("Yesterday's Enterprise" and "Deja Q," perhaps? Maybe they'll do so later?). I got this in my email today, and I'm already planning to go. Sweet. After all, no one pwns the Borg quite like Riker. Sigh. Though I'd have been fine to leave it at the last line of Part One just for the anticipation of Part Two in a few months. Not many can beat "Mister Worf, fire."

Coincidentally, my Mom and I have been watching TNG on Netflix. When I first logged into my brother's Netflix account and started poking around my almost-first reaction was, "OMG THEY HAVE EVERY EPISODE OF STAR TREK! EVER!!"

And then it occurred to me that I've never actually watched TNG. Not the way I've watched the other three spinoffs.

(I've never watched Original Trek except for a few pillar episodes, and while I respect its place Nerd and TV history wholeheartedly, I'm not really sure I have the stuff to watch watch it).

TNG was a childhood friend. For a while when I was little we tuned in every Saturday night as a family to watch it. I remember the characters, I remember the "feel" and I remember a handful of episodes specifically, but everything was all jumbled together.

So this rewatch has been really enjoyable. Earlier this week we watched "Who Watches the Watchers" and that was a very special nostalgic moment for me because it's the very first specific episode I remember watching on TV. I would've been eight years old when it aired. A little nerdling in early germination.

Other ones I remember that we've hit-- Q introducing us to the Borg, Geordi falling in love with a hologram. Stuff still to come-- Q making everybody play Robin Hood, Worf delivering Keiko's baby (I tended to remember the funny ones really well), everybody getting addicted to a computer game, and Picard turning borg, which, based on your post here, I realize will be happening a little sooner than I expected. ;-)

Good times. I'm having a lot of fun.

Yeah, I remember last July when the world exploded when all but DS9 got release on Netflix ON THE SAME DAY. And then DS9 came in September. Such a boon for Netflix and us Trekkies. *squee*

My history is a bit different than yours. TNG made me. It's the only Trek I watched as it aired, though I came to it a few seasons in and then caught up in reruns. The rest I watched later in either syndication (VOY) or from Netflix on DVD (DS9) or streaming (ENT). Now, TOS? My history is similar to yours. I have seen some of it, but not all of it, to be honest, and a recent attempt to do so via Netflix stalled out in season two. Because, um, yeah. You know.

I thought TNG was on on Sunday? Am I wrong? I might be. Also, um, I was in late high school then. I didn't realize I was that much older than you. *cough* Get off my lawn! ;)

I am so sorry if I inadvertently spoiled you! I mean, it sounds like I didn't, but I would hate it if I did. Granted, you only know when it's coming, now how, etc, but...sorry!

Anyway.

Enjoy, and boldy go!

I'll defer to Sunday. My single-digit age memories are a bit of a blur. ;-)

And no worries about spoilers! If a show is 25 years old and I'm worried about spoilers then I think I'm the one with the problem. Like I said, I know a lot of what happens, just not specific whens and hows and in what order.

Cool on spoilers, though I contest there is no statute of limitations. ;p

And I'm not sure on time slot. You might be right. I mean, Rick Moyer's wonderful song, TNG, says Saturday, so... I thought it was because he wasn't Stateside, but perhaps I'm flat wrong. I shall have to look it up later.

The episodes on the big screen are a lot of fun, and this one? Yeah, I'm looking forward to it, despite my dislike of Shelby. ;)

A-GREED. Quite excited by this. I have all of TNG on DVD but they are going to be releasing BoBW as a single disc, cut like a movie...sweeeeeet!!

Plus, I've decided I need a Riker Like-a-Boss icon because if there was EVER a kick ass Riker ep, this is it!!

Exactly. It's not like I can't watch it on Netflix tonight, but I'm not gonna, you know? ;)

A Riker Like A Boss icon, you say? Hm...

I quite like this one, but I could be coerced into making something to that effect. Hm...
