He’d been through this before, and he’d be damned if he’d give an inch.
Even after all he’d recently experienced, he wouldn’t bend. Not any more than he already had.
So he sat, stonily quiet and steadfastly meeting the other man’s gaze.
That man merely returned his expression.
The pair seemed locked in an unending battle of wills.
But finally, Clint Barton sighed and looked away for a moment. It wasn’t defeat, it was boredom. He made a show of looking at the clock on the wall, hoping to somehow speed it up.
If his eyes had flicked back fast enough, he might have seen the tiniest smirk on the psychiatrist’s face, but as it was, even his sharp vision missed it.
He also missed the knowing look in the doctor’s eyes that said this was far from his first rodeo, too.
But he didn’t miss the man’s voice, when it finally broke the silence and snapped his attention back to the speaker.
“So, I know your story, but seriously… why a bow and arrow?”
Clint grinned at that, and his doctor grinned back, and suddenly both men had the same thought.
Oh, but this was going to be fun.
