Nice to Meet You

Summary: Sometimes, when one meets a legend, one is disappointed. Other times, not so much.

I’ve heard the stories, of course.

But I’ve always had a hard time believing them.

They just didn’t fit with the man I’ve known, so I shrugged them off as only semi-true war stories, told by men to impress other men and thus exaggerated with each retelling.

Then again, I’m still relatively new at this, and many of his adventures were before my time. Others occurred too far away to be more than hearsay for me, and if I wasn’t there, who am I to say they didn’t happen?

So a part of me wanted to believe.

And now, as I see a look in his eyes that I’ve never seen there before, I know that even the wildest stories were true.

That realization scares me a little, but it turns me on a lot, and I’m not ashamed of that.

After all, Ivan would’ve understood. And while my late husband might have felt the slightest remorse for the loss of Mitchell, I do not. I probably never would have, but I certainly don’t right now. Losing Ivan, who understood everything else, too, has put me in quite a mood.

Oh, but it’s nice to meet you, Big Bad John.
