Writer's Block: Fan Me
Apr. 17th, 2012 04:41 pmWhat was your first fandom, and are you still active in it? How did you participate in this fandom (discussion lists or communities, fan art, fanfiction, conventions, etc)? Link us to your favorite LJ journals/comms about this fandom.
Then came TNG, where I started going to cons and hearing rumors of this "fanfiction" thing. You had to buy it. On paper. It was expensive, and I couldn't afford it, but I knew of it.
And then...then came The X-Files. The be all and end all of fandom by nearly every measure. Why? Because of the internet. Philes were the first to have it and use it for fandom. And that was one hell of a ride.
Stargate SG-1 came next, then SGA, and Firefly. I'm active in Sherlock, Sanctuary, Farscape, Harry Potter, and many others, too. I'm a multi-fandom kind of girl. Variety is the spice of life and all that. My participation now is mostly fanfiction, but I'll play with art and forums sometimes.
But in the end, it comes down to five: Star Trek, Star Wars, Stargate, Firefly, and The X-Files. Always.

Date: Apr. 19th, 2012 03:37 pm (UTC)After that came Angel, i suppose after Buffy it was kind of a given and this was when i started to dabble in fanfic but didn't share anything. This lasted about four years and again, not involved any more.
Smallville, Superman, Clark Kent came after that and dominated my life for several years. Yeah i got involved with the fandom again and i dip in and out with it nowadays. I have a very lovely dear friend from this fandom :) Began sharing fanfic in this fandom and the reaction was 'meh', not much of a reaction but the fandom is ginormous.
Law and Order:Criminal Intent followed and i skated around the periphery of this one, got involved to a point. The biggest bulk of my fan fic at fanfic.net is from this fandom. I don't really get involved with this fandom so much these days. There's a pattern here don't you see, i tend to move from one fandom to the next and not really look back.
Finally i'm at Being Human UK and i've been involved for 15 months give or take. Got involved when my sister loaned me S1 on DVD and it was about half way through the series that i realised i liked this show a lot. Bought S2 and fell in love with it, watched S3, mostly loved it, cried like a baby at the end of it and was cautious about season four, gave it a chance, fell in love with the new guys and i really love it. They've won me over, the writing has won me over and the cast and their chemistry have too. I'm writing fanfic and getting a pretty good response to it. Made some really great friends in the fandom too, i'll say one thing about BH UK fans, they're passionate about their show, they love and support all the actors in whatever they do and they are very welcoming and friendly to newbies and returning fans. It's comfortable :)

Date: Apr. 20th, 2012 05:43 pm (UTC)I still haven't finished S4. That reminds me. I should contact my source person. Or just wait for the DVD. No biggie, as I'm not in any hurry. I don't feel any rush to watch. It's not doing it for me. Sad, but true. We shall see later, though.
