Calling All X-Philes!
Dec. 1st, 2008 11:23 amIt's that time of year again! Advent calendar time! For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about or haven't had the pleasure of viewing Decemberlady's art, well...shame on you! Here we go, folks! There's a link behind the cut to this year's calendar and some older ones, too. There will be a new image daily for you to enjoy. Just click on the day, like an old-school advent calendar. I promise the prizes in this one are worth it. UPDATE: IT'S HERE! IT'S HERE!
"Come and turn the pages of these photo albums and remember the journey that so many of us philes took together. The X-Files have been over for a long time, but this site is about Dreams, isn't it? And I choose to keep the Dream alive... for you." -Decemberlady.

And now, a note on fandom:
I'm so happy that this tradition is continuing. I enjoy it every year. And as Decemberlady said:
"I owe a lot to the X-Files... it opened up an exciting new chapter in my life with many new and dear friends, and brought out an artistic part of my soul that I didn't even know that I had. The show may be over, but I'll never forget it!"
I completely understand this sentiment. For me, the show that brought out my creativity was SG-1, but my fandom side was first revealed by The X-Files. Sure, I Trekked, and I loved Star Wars, but in the words of the great Annerb:
"...the X-Files will always be the be all and end all of fandoms and fanfic. That's where it all started, Baby."
The X-Files changed everything-it was the first internet fandom show. SG-1 and my fanfic was a natural progression of my personal journey. Decemberlady has it right. A simple television show can change everything. I have made friends and changed lives because of an uncommon love for common things. I've been quietly involved in TXF fandom for over a decade. A decade! And I can't imagine it any other way.
To go quote crazy, and throw in my current main star, I bring you Nathan Fillion's words:
"Firefly changed me. It changed my whole life. I made lifelong friends who have improved the quality of my life."
I'm sensing a theme here, aren't you?
Thank you to the creators for bringing me the shows I love. Thank you to Decemberlady for bringing me graphical joy for the past seven years. Thank you to fandom for giving that joy a place to live. And thank you to all my friends, all over the world, for being who you are. You're cherished and loved, and I wish you all nothing but the best.
Long. Live. Fandom.
