jackwabbit: (Scarlett)

A million years ago (okay, last summer), I offered my thoughts on the new G.I. Joe movie here. Now, as anyone who's been around here long knows, I'm a huge fan of the Marvel G.I. Joe comics. Thus, it was hard for me not to fangirl nitpick the movie to death, but all in all, I concluded that we could have done much worse. However, there was one thing in this movie that they got dead right. One homage that is blatantly obvious to me but that would go flying over the head any average movie goer. I've been meaning to document it for ages, and I finally am. A pictorial documentation of this homage follows.

First, the comic:

From issue twenty-one, considered a comics classic by all accounts:

Storm Shadow flying in to COBRA headquarters on a personal glider.

His package was none other than Scarlett, who is plenty pissed and who can handle herself in a fight.

Or as a prisoner.

Eventually, she steals the glider.

She begins to escape, but then realizes Snake-Eyes has come to rescue her and is in trouble himself.

Scarlett to the rescue! (Or not?)

And finally, escape!

And now, the movie:

Look! Storm Shadow in a glider! And he stole it from the Joes.

He pulls the Baroness out of the fire.

She covers his escape.

And finally, freedom.

When I saw this scene in the theater, I grinned like an idiot for five minutes.

I've never heard whether this was done on purpose, but I simply can't believe it wasn't.

Especially when you throw in the fact that Scarlett and the Baroness just had to fight with a chain. (See comic pic four.)

Just sayin. They got this one right.
