Snurched from [livejournal.com profile] roboticonograph and Wordle.

This was a fun and mindless way to kill a bit of time after a pretty miserable day at work.

Since so many of my fics are short, I chose to do this on Command Decisions, my big beast. At 52K words, I thought it only fair. The result?

Go, team, go! This made me giggle a lot. I played around a bit, and found that depending on fandom, I say things like "Mal" and "Remus" and "Mac" a lot, but I'm especially fond of the ones that come out like this:

Oh, trust me. If you pick the right fics, that one name comes up big a lot. But for things like drabbles and double drabbles, the numbers get skewed due to the short length of the fic.

So, I picked a few longer ones. One of my longer SGA fics involves Daniel and Carson sharing a brew and commiserating about being no longer dead. It's a simple fact in my Stargate world that those two men have shared something none of the rest can possible relate to. And there you have it.

lol, those are so fun to do! I just discovered those from school and now have the idea of doing that for one of my fics. ^-^

I had fun with it. Though to be fair, deleting the main character's names is a better way to see if you overuse words, etc.

true. We talked about it in my Ed class tonight and you can also use it with famous documents and speeches so you can figure out what the main points of that were.

This can actually be a useful tool. I took something I wrote, copied it into a new doc, deleted the names of the main characters, and was able to see, wow, I use the verb "thought" and awful lot. Etc. Good to see where I've overused certain terms.

That's how I found it useful, too. I use "actually" a lot more than is probably reasonable.

Exactly. I need to do it that way, too. I know I tend to overuse references to eyes and glances and such, so...yeah. I was just playing around last night, but for real use, I need to delete main character names, etc.

Indeed. I need to do this in this way, as well. It's interesting to see what words one uses over and over.
