Loved Imzadi! I think this is the only Star Trek book I read. Weren't there several sequels to it?

There was one, Triangle (or Imzadi II), but it was not written by Peter David. It's okay, but if you're going to read another Trek novel, I'd recommend Devil's Heart or Vulcan's Forge or most especially Q-In-Law (just a paperback, though - one of the many Trek Pocket books), which is also by Peter David and which is probably one of the funniest books I've ever read. Period.

Well, one thing to know about Peter David is that he does Dragon*Con every year. If you can't make this year, there's always next year. I planned this signing before he was even on the guest list, because he ALWAYS is. He also always does his panel near the very end of the con, and many people can't go because they have to fly out to get home (he usually does the 4:30 spot on Monday afternoon). This included me last year. This year, I might be able to catch his panel, as I don't fly out until 8 PM. (But still not likely, as that's pushing it for the airport and he won't change his panel time, probably. Peter David is known to be rather, um, persistent in how he likes things and my understanding is that it is best to let him have his way, so...yeah.) But he does sign a fair bit in the author area, and from those I know who have met him, he's nice to fans, if quite odd.

Anyway...the other thing to know, which if you're serious about going you've probably already looked up, is that you are very late in the game. But it's not impossible to get this done if you want to. Con ticket is easy. Though more expensive now, it's still not bad. Flight is flight and that is what it is. It's the place to stay that's brutal. Very hard to find at this point, but not impossible. (I reserved my room in December.) Best advice I could give is that if you haven't already, join the Dragon*Con com and the Dragon*Con room com here on LJ to find something. People need roomies and people have situations change and need to bail.

I'm full up, so I can't help, but there's something out there!

Yeah, somewhere to stay is not the problem--I actually know people who are going who could probably put me up. Money is not the issue either. The problem is my job. It's a really crucial time for me to be away from work, and I just don't think it's going to happen, especially this year. It would also make me kind of a shitty boss, which I'm not super cool with.

Which is too bad, because I really would love to meet Stan the Man. It's good to know PD is there every year, though. Maybe someday. :)

Ah, yes, the work thing.

I had that issue with Phoenix Comicon this past month. I should have been there for soooo many reasons (namely that the charity I volunteer for was the sponsored charity and there was a ton of work to do!), but I just couldn't get out of work. *grumble* I'm still pissed about it, really.

But alas, it is what it is, right?

Maybe next year, indeed.

Yeah, work is making me a little crazy right now, to be honest. My boss is brilliant but also slightly insane (I often compare her to Doc Brown from Back to the Future) and she frequently asks the impossible, and the problem is that I just always DO the impossible every time she asks, and so she never actually learns that it's not okay to ask... plus this was day 10 of what is probably going to be a 14-day stretch, which is damaging my calm. :P

True! I think maybe life as a space privateer would suit me better though. The hours would probably be less taxing and I wouldn't have to break up as many fights. :P
