Writer's Block: Superbowl madness or sadness?

I LOVE football. Playing football, that is. Watching? Meh. Not so much.

But I live with a television watcher, so I will be exposed to second-hand Super Bowl. Thus, I will likely see anything of import, like the one or two cool commercials, etc (there really aren't that many good ones anymore). Also, last year, several of my twitter friends and celebs I follow made the Super Bowl tons of fun by doing running commentaries. THAT was fun. If that happens again, I'll watch with my phone or laptop in hand and twitter open so that I can talk to my friends and have a cool online party while making fun of the entire thing. I'm also considering some rum, which makes nearly everything better, so... snarkfest ahead! (Provided I get all my shit done today, as always... off I go!)

Agreed. Speaking of the pro-life ad, I got this email the other day from some group I support:

(Oh, darn! I deleted the email. I found the text version better than the vid version, but both make the same point. The upcoming ad is silly, as it's counter to its own purpose. See, Tim Tebow's (big time college football player) mother chose to have a baby years back. It was a high-risk pregnancy and she went ahead with it anyway and she is glad. (Presumably the baby was Tim?) That's the crux of the ad. And see, that's the point, isn't it? It's is about choice. One woman choose to have her baby after discussing things with her family and her doctors, etc. Great! That's what we want every woman to be able to do, regardless of what her decision is in the end! She should have her options presented to her and make her own choice, just like Mrs. Tebow did! Thank you for reminding this of this fact, Mrs. Tebow!)

Yes, the baby was Tim, Future Football Hero. And because she made her choice years ago, and it turned out well, women today should never, under any circumstances, be allowed even to think about abortion. Doctors should not mention it; they should go to prison for doing it. Or be shot themselves. Because one woman beating the odds means that no other woman should even have the option, y'know? The souls of babies are much more important than anything else, including the life of the mother.

But you are totally right. I mean, even if there's the slightest chance that it's all true, we need to pay attention. Because the world is so much better with another star football player in it and we would all be so distraught if there wasn't because we would totally know the difference and it would be terrible.

Ugh. You know, I'm reminded of a conversation I had with my father years ago. The crux of it was this: my very own father, who can be a bit good old boy at times but who is also an intelligent man, told me that no man, ever, has a right to decide a damn thing about abortion and that is was a woman's right to decide for herself what she wanted out of life. Period and the end. I tend to agree.
