Prop 1 in Maine looks to have gone the way of Prop 8 in California. The legs of my legislature have been amputated, like those of California's court. This is a travesty, and I am embarrassed by it.
I hate that I was right about this. Still, though hate and fear won today, I do not believe they will win forever. This majority was only 52.9 percent of the vote. That's something. Fear has won this battle, but I hope not the war. As for me, well... I might have been on the losing side - still not convinced it was the wrong side.
I can only hope that one day my Supreme Court or my President will prove that. To tomorrow!

Date: Nov. 4th, 2009 04:39 pm (UTC)Of course, she doesn't mean that in a Karl Marx-ish, viva la revolución way, but from a generational standpoint. The majority of people born in the 70s and later are OK with gay rights, even if they themselves are not gay... it's the voters born before then...
(We're still shocked our Southern Baptist small town passed a ordinance to allow alcohol to be served in restaurants. Shocked.)
