New Fic: Canis Lupus
Oct. 18th, 2009 01:51 amCanis Lupus
Fandom: Harry Potter
Rated: PG
Category: Drabble, Gen, Angst, Remus.
Spoilers: None per se. Set in PoA.
Summary: Wolf and Dog: They are the same. Or perhaps not.
Disclaimer: Accio, Copyrights! Oh, darn. Wand backfired. Well, it was worth a shot.
---
The domestic dog’s scientific name is Canis lupus familiaris.
To Remus Lupin, that last word stings.
It is nature’s cruelest joke.
Familiaris.
Latin for familiar. Family. Same. Like.
That one word splits dog from wolf.
It cleaves Canis lupus familiaris from plain old Canis lupus, and rightfully so.
For the descendant is considered a loyal friend while the forefather is seen as a monster who steals in the night.
The irony of that societal bias always makes Remus ask the same question.
How is it, then, that the dog was sent away for unspeakable crimes while the wolf roams free?

Date: Oct. 20th, 2009 06:41 pm (UTC)A little of the "not okay". I really like this mostly-untouched-on aspect of their relationship that (dude, totally!) *had* to be there.
Yay!

Glad you liked it, love. It's been sitting for quite a while on the hard drive. Was from a prompt for "joke."
Yeah, that's where I go with that prompt. Can't help it.
