SGU Episode 2
Oct. 10th, 2009 12:45 amSPOILERS!
So, this episode, IMHO, was much better than the pilot. (Which, incidentally, was better on second viewing.)
Is it just me, or did they gate to the planet from Fragile Balance? Or The Defiant One? Oh, well. Everyone knows all planets are desert, ice, or jungle. Moving on.
Hey! There was kinda, sorta a bit of a theme song this week. Yay!
Oh, that's interesting. Rush did actually talk to earth. He didn't make that up. Huh.
Hee! Look at all the different hats on the desert planet! That is SO SG-1.
Eli quoting Planet of the Apes was fun, even it was the millionth homage in SGU so far.
Nice to see Scott stepping up the plate and actually leading a bit.
And the Ancient communication stones? Still a nice touch.
Hm...so Telford's a dick. Good to know.
OMG! GO TJ! WAY TO KNOCK THAT DICK OUT WITH HEAVY SEDATION! YOU GO, GIRL!
Eli being brave and reporting back to Scott was nice.
I'm curious who/what the sand entities are. I hope they come back.
But best of all?
HOLD THE DOOR OPEN, ELI!
I have to confess that when the countdown started running low and I knew that Scott and angry black guy weren't going to make it to the gate on time, I literally started to yell "stick your arm in, Eli! Hold the wormhole open!" The fact that Rush was actually intelligent enough to have read the mission report from Shades of Grey and he came to the same conclusion I did (albeit much later) made me not dislike him quite so much. Perhaps he's not a complete idiot, after all. (And just to clarify, I don't dislike him because he seems like the bad guy but because he's dumb. So far, the character does nothing for me. Oh, and ditto on the yelling. I was a bit involved, but mostly I just wanted to see someone do that again. Oh...perhaps I should go watch me some Shades of Grey. Never a bad choice, that. Sigh...)
Oh, and what of the two people who gated to the other planet? Options: 1-they died. 2-they're alive and barring them dying from indigenous life, disease, hunger, thirst, etc, they very well might show up again, like Ford in SGA. That might be fun.
Also, this thing they are trying to ship between Scott and the Senator's daughter? (I don't know her name.) Meh. We'll see.
Finally, Jack's little speech on no one being qualified? Excellent.
But you know, it occurs to me that with the Ancient stones they could just, oh, body-swap McKay, Jackson, Carter, Lee and Zelenka (thanks, Cleo - brain fart!) onto the Destiny and have this thing whipped in one episode. Just sayin.

Totally with you on the scott/senator's daughter ship.
What I didn't care for in this episode is the music montage thing at the end. So many shows are doing that and I can't help but roll my eyes each and everytime that sad/deep/poignant song plays and we see the characters dealing with events of the episode. It used to work, (like on Lost) once upon a time, but I want it stop!

OH, and yes...montage not so much. I've already forgotten it, though. SGU was followed by SANCTUARY! so...yeah...forgot about it.
