Young Laredo...How You've Grown

jackwabbitI somehow have only just found out that Daryl Mitchell, the young man who played Tommy Webber/Laredo in Galaxy Quest, is paralyzed from the waist down after a motorcycle accident in 2001. I probably missed this fact because Mr. Mitchell tends to act in productions that aren't exactly my cup of tea in general, but that's beside the point. When my husband recently saw a familiar face in a preview for Michael Strahan's (yes, that Michael Strahan) new television show, he looked up the casting info and hit me with this.
Now, motorcycle accidents happen, and people are paralyzed every day. Some of them happen to be more famous than others. That's a simple fact. But that's not the point here. The point is that Daryl Mitchell is still acting. A fair bit, if his IMDB is anything to go by. Mr. Mitchell is married, has four children, and works for charity groups dealing with spinal cord injuries. And he still acts.
