And OMG YES! The red shirt. I must confess that I missed it, too at first. I was obsessing over why they were all wearing different color suits (one gold, one blue, one red) for the longest time. Then it hit me. Awesome.
As for GQ, I'm probably making it up. It probably was not on purpose. BUT...when the Enterprise first jumps out of warp over Vulcan into the remains of the fleet, and the one large piece of debris (saucer section of some ship?) scrapes slowly over the nacelle, all I could think of was Tommy piloting the Protector out of spacedock. That and Sulu forgetting to turn off the external inertial dampeners to begin with reminded me of my favorite homage/parody movie of all time.
