New Fic: Ring Bearer, Concluded
Nov. 24th, 2021 05:53 pmFandom: Star Trek Discovery
Rated: G
Category: Double Drabble. Culmets. RickyVerse. Joy.
Time Frame: Sometime after season three.
Spoilers: General series knowledge through season three.
Summary: Sometimes, it doesn’t matter how you get there. It’s the destination that counts.
Note: Another Ricky story, because I just can’t help myself. Another alternate ending to “Ring Bearer.” This one isn’t rough at all. Honest. Taken together, these tell a larger story.
Paul had it all planned out.
Since Ricky couldn’t walk, the traditional meaning of the word didn’t work.
But ever since the idea popped into his head one night after one of Hugh’s truly terrible puns had set them on a contest that could only be described as ever-more-terrible with each exchange, he couldn’t shake it.
So he had it all planned out.
He’d have Ricky with him in bed. He’d wait until Hugh worked late so that wouldn’t seem strange. And when Hugh came home – when he came to bed – Paul would ask him to put Ricky back on his shelf in the living room so they could have some privacy.
The box would be under Ricky.
It’d be a surprise. It wouldn’t be a birthday, or an anniversary, or a holiday – just an ordinary day.
The kind of day Paul wanted so many more of.
And so he’d ask.
Hugh would say yes.
It would be the best ordinary day ever.
He had it all planned out.
And oh, god, there was Hugh.
Could he back out?
No – and he didn’t want to.
So he didn’t.
Then they were kissing and crying and hugging.
Just as he’d planned.

A/N: And thus concludes the Ring Bearer series. Thanks for sticking with me through this bizarre little writing experiment. This series owes its existence to me being unable to pick a favorite ending when I originally wrote it. So I wrote all of my ideas. After two or three, I realized they could tell their own story, and here we are. There is one more of these written, but I'm undecided on if I will post it, as I like this ending on its own. But maybe I'll surprise you later. We'll see. Thanks again for hanging in there with me, and I'll see you next week. Same Ricky time, same Ricky channel!
