Summary: Some things still managed to surprise Furiosa. Usually, those things involved Max.

She kissed him once, years after the Fury Road.
And it was like nothing she’d ever experienced, but not for the reasons most would assume.
Because it wasn’t the situation that made it unique. After all, a tackle of a presumed stranger during a chance encounter in the wasteland was pretty normal for her.
And it didn’t lead to a magic life together or any other such nonsense. That just didn’t work for people like them.
Nor was it any mind-blowing sex that followed, because that certainly hadn’t happened. His only response was a twitch. She gave him just a shrug and a spray of dirt as she gunned her bike.
No, it wasn’t any of that.
It was the scruff.
Because Joe didn’t kiss.
And frankly, neither did she, but the few War Boys she’d experimented with in her youth shaved with religious fervor.
So she wasn’t expecting the beard.
It wasn’t like her own head.
It was rougher; more coarse.
If asked, she’d have said it was like sand – gritty, dirty, and abrasive. Something that gets everywhere and stays with you.
Just like him.
What she wouldn’t have said was how she wouldn’t have had it any other way.
