The first time RDA was announced for Gatecon in 2008 I wanted to skip it originally. I already had seen him in the UK at Avalon (his first ever). But as you say, the more friends said they were going the more I realized this is my only chance to see them all in one place – especially the American friends. Plus at Gateworld they already started planning things in groups, like going to THAT restaurant and eat steak there ;) So this was a huge draw, also Vancouver itself and to see all those places I knew from TV. And we had a blast.

I haven’t even checked which other stars are there going to be this time, I only know about Rick, Amanda and Michael.

I didn’t like the Gatecon very much. Too many guests, too much going on at the same time, I missed lots while standing in lines for photographs, and six people on stage at the same time is way too much. Until they all had answered one question, it was half an hour later. Also the Gatecon DVD which we paid for and then took years to arrive, was awful quality. I have seen way better DVDs. So, the organizers did not make the best impression on me.

The one that was called “Meet the Man” also organized by the GABIT people (as this one is if I am not mistaken? Or is it the old Gatecon people?) was amazing. Only 300 tickets (which weren’t even sold completely I think) made for a very relaxed and familiar con. You don’t get rushed through the autograph session, you can take your time – Rick and I even played miniature hockey, and he played with my friend’s Jack figure and bike. So if it is indeed the GABIT people and I think it is if you say it is limited to 300 – I would vote for it. Trying something new certainly can’t hurt. They are still on the top of my list of favorite convention organizers ever. What they did with Avalon in 2006 in the UK was amazing. Sometimes it’s the little things that count.

I can’t imagine ever going to something like Dragon con. Compared to that, even our Fedcon with 5,000 – 6,000 is rather small I guess. And they have William Shatner next year…
