I’d been waiting for it.
For years, actually.
And when it finally happened, I was high as a kite.
Literally.
So much so that I didn’t notice that first night when he didn’t come home.
The next time, though, it was obvious, and the figurative use of that phrase applied.
I was happy for him; for them.
And I wasn’t surprised when he didn’t exactly live here anymore.
But thrilled as I was, I missed him.
It was too quiet in the house.
And now, suddenly, he’s back.
It’s like before, except totally different.
Because it is still too quiet.
