Summary:  Young Captain Hammer Saves The Day - But Was It Worth It?

Note: I realize our Captain was quite likely always special, but this fic supposes he either got his full powers at adolescence or kept them hidden until the day when he couldn’t any more.

The first time I kissed Lisa Cooper, we were backstage.

Guess it's only fitting that she just ended things backstage.

I understand why she did it.

I mean, things are so different now.

This thing with me is so huge.  It changes everything.  I don’t blame her for dumping me.

Not really.

Still, though, things were just starting to go somewhere, and…

Damn.

I know there’s a hundred other girls in school who’d take her place now, but that’s not about me.

They just want to be with the hero.

I wish I’d never stopped that car.

I really do.

That boy didn’t deserve to die, and it was easy enough to prevent, but…

Damn.

My father’s waiting for me to join him on stage.   He smiles, but as Lisa waves a sad goodbye I know things will never be the same.

After all, it’s not just Dad who’s waiting.

Seems someone’s called a press conference.  They want to talk about the almost accident.

My father’s eyes narrow and he leaves the stage for a moment.  He’s next to me before I realize it.  He nudges me, hard.  I know what he wants.

Time to smile for the cameras.

Damn.

I feel so bad for Hammer, but at least he ends up embracing his hero-status eventually. And it's clearly Lisa's loss. :)

As for our good Captain, well, this just jumped into my head and insisted on being written. What I meant to convey is that while Hammer is now all cheese and smarm, and not just on the outside, perhaps that started because it was required. No matter what happened, he had to be the one to always smile and wave to the crowd. Even if he didn't want to. Let's face it. An adolescent or teenage kid who just got dumped just wants to crawl into bed with some music. But Superman can't have a bad day. Especially if his dad's a dick, which I wanted to hint at but not overtly explain here. Eventually, the act became the reality of Captain Hammer.

Woman! You're killing me! I've got Carson Beckett bunnies nibbling my toes, real blogs to write, and original stories to submit to things! And now more of this? What do you think I am? A superhero?

That makes sense. It would be pretty impossible to be normal when your life is so completely not.
I totally got that his dad was a dick, seemed like he cared more about the crowd than Hammer's feelings. No doubt, he'll take advantage of his son's fame.

Wow. Cool. I haven't read any, either. I've seen a few crossovers that were ok, but no straight up Dr. H fics. However, I recently found the LJ community horrible_fic, and while I haven't read anything there yet, it seems like the place to be if you want to read some DHSAB fic. Oh, and there's this, too:



The horrible_awards community. I haven't explored there, either, but I did volunteer to judge when/if then need some later. I can also think of some graphics that deserve nominated, too.
