So...um...yeah...
Feb. 8th, 2012 04:34 am...this is out there. In case my last fic didn't give it away, let me explain something I recently discovered. In the Sherlock fandom, there exists a genre of fic called the "221B." These fics are precisely 221 words long and end with a word that starts with "B." Dude. I'm in heaven. It's like a tailor-made genre for little wabbit fics. I had to go find a special icon and everything! Whee!

Date: Feb. 8th, 2012 04:52 pm (UTC)There is also a lot of good Sherlock fan-art around. Like this

Lots of creative people out there! I usually don't search for such stuff, but my friends share what they find.
As for me, I want Sherlock action figures. Now would be good ;)

Date: Feb. 8th, 2012 05:01 pm (UTC)I find some on my own, and some folks send to me, but honestly, I really just do not read fic as a general rule. I go through phases where I read it a ton, but for the most part, I just don't read fic. And certainly not Stargate fic. I couldn't tell you the last time I read a Stargate fic, and I can probably count those I have read on my hands and feet.
I tend to either read a fandom or write a fandom. The two don't mix for me. There are, of course, exceptions, but mostly...nope. And when I do read fic, it's got to be short. Long fic just isn't (generally) my cup of tea.
Vids are a whole 'nother story, though. Love 'em!

Date: Feb. 8th, 2012 10:54 pm (UTC). . . Is there a reason, like it's a reference to something? Or did they just come up with those rules randomly?

Date: Feb. 8th, 2012 11:52 pm (UTC)Well, not so fictional, I guess, since you can visit there and it's a preserved heritage site place thingy. ;)
Did you know they still receive letters there addressed to Sherlock Holmes? Too true. And the Sherlock Holmes museum there seems pretty cool. I didn't get to visit it when I went to London a few years ago, but I will next time!

Date: Feb. 9th, 2012 09:23 pm (UTC)Did I ever show them to you? I do have 5 MB versions which I could send by mail.
There were a few years, where I did ONLY read fics. No book from the library could hold my interest, as I found any other character that was not Jack, Sam, Daniel or Teal'c boring. That was very weird, as before I bought the computer, I had read many many books. My fic obsession has died down now, as I think I have seen pretty much everything and it is hard to find something extraordinary and new.

Date: Feb. 9th, 2012 09:27 pm (UTC)Some of the letters are even exhibited. I loved this one by a kid which went like "Dear dead Mr. Sherlock Holmes, I know you are dead but my teacher insists I write to you. Because I want a good grade, I am doing it but between you and me, I think she is crazy" or something like that ;)
You can read it for yourself here:

Date: Feb. 10th, 2012 06:22 am (UTC)Very cool. I'm glad you got to visit. It was one of the places we had on our "if we have time" list, but we didn't have time. Our trip was so compressed. But we'll go back one day and we'll go then. No biggie.

Date: Feb. 10th, 2012 06:24 am (UTC)But like I said, it all depends on the fandom.
And I knew you made vids. I think I've seen them at some point.
