On Fridays, I work within minutes of the Atlantic. Not a bad gig if you can get it.

Date: Nov. 15th, 2008 07:13 pm (UTC)For three years after my marriage ended, I ran away from home every December rather than deal with the holidays. And I ran away to sea, of course. Hotels and motels on the Pacific coast are dirt cheap in winter -- I spent Christmas Day 1998 as the sole occupant of a lovely hostel at Bandon-By-the-Sea, in southern Oregon. Roaring winds and rain on the beach, a wood stove in the hostel, and utterly perfect solitude.
