jackwabbit: (NaNoWriMo)

Ok, ok, ok!  I'm in already!  The itch to try NaNoWriMo was bad enough when [livejournal.com profile] lfvoy led the way, and when [livejournal.com profile] gemsong got in on the act, my temptation level skyrocketed and my competitive drive got kicked into second gear.  Still, I was unsure.  But when PJ Haarsma tells a kid to "KEEP ON WRITING: WRITE, WRITE, WRITE, AND REWRITE", well, I must obey the Peej, even if he wasn't talking to me.

Fifty thousand words in thirty days?

I'm in.  God help us all, but I'm in.

Gee, thanks, PJ.  Thanks a lot.

For the record, though-this video interview of you by your young friend rocks-way cool.  Check it out, people!

Aw, I feel so loved. Of course, this might be just the kick in the pants I need to write that monster Mac fic of mine, so you might get the benefit! (But I have other ideas, too...decisions, decisions...I'll probably go original story, but we'll see.)

YAY! Another one turned to the dark side! :-D

If you have the money/inclination, I actually do recommend picking up Chris Baty's companion book (No Plot? No Problem). I'm not the sort to do the "endorsement" thing, so don't think of it that way...but I really did find it pretty useful.

He does not recommend outlining. ;-)

P.S. I am lfvoy over there, too.

Monster Mac? Ooo . . . but you need to write what's right for you, not what might align neatly with my own biases. Whatever you write, it's going to kick ass. And I'm going to be cheering you on. So there. {{{{{wabbit}}}}}

On the other hand, if you're ever going to read my longer pieces, you'd better do it before NaNoWriMo starts, because you're sure as hell not going to have any time to read while it's going on!

Yep, monster Mac. I've had the idea for probably over a year, but because I know it's going to be brutally long, and that's not my style, I've avoided starting it. So, somthing like this might make me do it. But you're right...I'll see what strikes my fancy. I had a brand new idea for original fiction last night in the shower. I'm excited by it, but I'm not sure it will be long enough.

There's my dilemma. I'm not going to write 50K words just to write 50K words. If the story ends at 30K, it ends at 30K, you know?

We'll see.

Thanks so much for the support-and I actually did start reading Up A Long Ladder a while ago...but so very much not done. Fell into a new Clive Cussler novel, see...

But NaNoWriMo is only for a month...course, then it will be December, and I might have to do another advent calendar fic a day for 24 days...it's always something!

*G*

Greetings! I am, in fact, jackwabbit over there, too, but I haven't officially set up my profile yet. I'll probably do it tonight. And I'll cheer you on for sure!

My longest fic is 52K, and it took me 384 days to write, but I wrote the first 20 pages or so in one afternoon, then took about 7 months off, then came back and wrote the other 98 pages over about six months. So...this will be rough for me, too.

When I get my profile officially set up (I only registered so far), I'll head over and buddy you. I might check out the book, too, but I don't know if I'll have time to read it before this big shindig starts. As for the dark side, not me...All Jedi, All The Time. ; )

(But Luke did turn dark side for a while...and what about Luuke, the clone Skywalker, and...ok, requires more thought.)

Love you for going for this; I'm sure you'll be out-of-pocket more then (*whine*) but it'll be good *wink*. If you mean The Monster Mac Fic (x-overish) thing we used to giggle about, that would be So Coool. But if this ends up being a whole new fandom, that'd be fine, too. Just warn me so I can read source material ahead of time ;)

I suspect it will not be fanfiction, dear.

If I write fanfic, it will likely be the giant Mac X-Over that you know (and Lothi has part of a sequel to), but like I said, I suspect I will go original fic here.

Got several ideas...

As for being out of pocket, two things. 1-whinging is unbecoming. 2-you do know that for a while last summer I was writing 1000 words per day only because Stephen King told me to, right? The quantity ain't the issue, it's the fact that it should be one story.

You can do it! I had a moment right after I posted my total in the com. I almost changed my POV from third to first person, but I let it be after a bit of angst over it. I'm at just over 2500 now. Break time now, then trying for another 2500 tonight. My story is not SF at all. A sort of coming of age story, but not quite.
