Dances With Wolves
Jan. 31st, 2011 10:35 amOn Saturday night, couch-ridden with a cold, I finally watched Avatar. You know, Dances With Wolves in space. I liked it. It wasn't OMGAWESOME or anything, but it was decent. It led to a conversation about Dances With Wolves and that, in turn, led to me singing high praises for its soundtrack, which remains one of the most powerful pieces I've had the pleasure to hear. The buffalo slaughter scene cannot be heard without chills and tears to this day. You don't need the film to know something horrendous has happened. A year of my life shared this soundtrack, on a hand-made tape given to me by a friend. Today, we lost that soundtrack's creator. Music is sad.
Rest in Peace, John Barry. I hope the music plays on, wherever you are.
And the rest of you?
