Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog has already changed the way many people look at entertainment, and it seems only fitting that a production that truly used the internet to its full potential have an internet fan awards site, like so many fandoms before it.

Look no further than the horrible_awards community right here on LJ for such a wonder!

Many deserving folks have already been nominated in categories like The Cheesy On The Outside Award, The Go To The Moon And Become Florists Award, and The Spork In The Thigh Award, but there are still open slots for more nominees, too.  So get out there and find your favorite Dr. Horrible icons, art, fic, and creations and nominate them today!  Or just visit the community and check out what some of your fellow fans have created!  I personally find Dr. Horrible tea a lovely and quite refreshing idea!  Rock on, fandom.  Rock on.

Empire Magazine has voted the crew of everyone's favorite Firefly-class transport, Serenity, number 15 on their list of Top 25 Coolest Movie Crews, and while I'd definitely debate some of their choices, I'll let them off easy since they had this to say about the captain of that famed boat:

MVP: "It has to be Fillion, that perennial Empire fave, showing here the reasons why he's just that. Chiefly, we like him because he's a scoundrel."

Yes.  Yes, we do.  The article can be found here.

In this vid, a friend of the animator, who has never seen the Star Wars trilogy, retells the story of Star Wars.  Other than putting The Empire Strikes Back in the middle of Return of the Jedi and being a bit of a slasher, she didn't do half bad!  She got a few things right, and a few things wrong, but I'm still laughing myself stupid over this vid, so I thought I'd share!  Vid time is 3:43.

A while ago, I posted about a new Firefly fan film here.  In case you missed that post, here's an recap.  Big Damn Fan Films is making a new Firefly fan film entitled Browncoats: Redemption.  The film is being made to maintain and increase interest in the Firefly universe and to raise money for charity.  All proceeds from the film will benefit Kids Need to Read, Equality Now, The Dyslexia FoundationThe Al Wooten Jr. Heritage Center, and The Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation.   Big Damn Fan Films has the support of Joss Whedon himself for this project and to show their determination to their cause, they have already started an earnest campaign to raise funds for their chosen charities.

Their Facebook Causes page for Kids Need to Read
was started in late November 2008.  Their goal is to raise $3500 for KNTR before February 11, 2009.  They want to help send Kids Need to Read to Dragon*Con in Atlanta, Georgia this fall.  Dragon*Con is the largest fan-run science fiction/fantasy convention in the United States, and KNTR's presence there would be a huge help for fundraising and letting the world know what our organziation does.  Big Damn Fan Film's goal is lofty, but they're already well on their way to acheiving it.  On the film front, their movie has a script and a crew, and casting calls have gone out.  On the charity front, as of today, they have raised $1101 for KNTR.  Our hat is off to Michael Dougherty and Big Damn Fan Films.  They've given KNTR a huge leg-up for attending Dragon*Con already, and we can't wait to see how their film turns out!
