Episode Meme

Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] xfirefly9x

You're stranded on a desert island. The upside? You have a fancy solar-powered ipod that can play video. The downside? You can only choose five episodes (maximum of one hour in length) from five different TV shows.

There are rules: choosing an episode that's only a half-hour long doesn't allow you any more room, and you can't give up one show to make room for a two-parter from another. You have to choose five different shows, and you're only allowed one episode from each.

My List (at this very moment, of course)

1. Firefly - Out Of Gas
2. The X Files - Pusher
3. Stargate Atlantis - Duet
4. Stargate SG-1 - The Other Side
5. Star Trek Deep Space Nine - Trials and Tribblations

This sounds like fun. I like your choices, but I think my list, as of this moment would be:

1. Torchwood - Captain Jack Harkness
2. Supernatural - Bad Day at Black Rock
3. The X-Files - The Ghost who Stole Christmas
4. Buffy The Vampire Slayer - Fool For Love
5. Stargate SG-1 - The Shroud

Wow, that was actually harder than I thought it would be, I kept changing my mind and I still wound up without anything from Starsky & Hutch, NCIS, or Forever Knight.

Yeah, it's always tough to do these things. TXF is the hardest for me. I wavered on Bad Blood and War of the Coprophages and others for humor. I watched How The Ghosts Stole Christmas this holiday season, as I always do, and it is soooo lovely that I understand why you picked it. But I went with my overall favorite episode, despite its more serious tone. I took the humor with SGA and DS9.

I love Bab Blood too, I started to go with more angsty episodes, which Pusher definitely qualifies for, but decided that I was in the mood for comedy and romance, hence the Buffy and Torchwood episodes. I watch The Ghosts who stole Christmas every year while I put my tree up. It's tradition

[identity profile] jackwabbit.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Absolutely a tradition.

Do you know about this?

I contributed some icons this year for the first time. It is so much fun, and I can only hope that DL keeps it up! ("We haven't forgotten the true spirit of Christmas.")

Wow . . . that's incredibly difficult! I don't think I could do it.

There was a Writer's Block question one time that asked what your favorite X-Files episode was, and I ended up listing a bunch. I can never just pick one.
Firefly would be even harder.

[identity profile] jackwabbit.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
Nothing beats 'cerulean blue is like a gentle breeze' for me for all out favorite episode of TXF ever. I don't have to think for a second about it. There are many, many episodes I love, but none can touch Pusher over all.

As for Firefly, well, this is all you need to know:

http://jackwabbit.livejournal.com/21372.html

(Funny. Pusher comes up there, too. It's a small, small world!)

[identity profile] poisonyoulove.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
That quote pops into my head so often, ha ha. I generally go for the funny, though, when picking favorites. I'd listed "Home, Bad Blood, War of the Caprophages, Jose Chung's From Outer Space, Hollywood A.D. . . . also, anything with the Lone Gunmen in it."
But that list was pared down from my original mental list.

That Out of Gas autograph is amazing! I've liked every show that Tim Minear has written, I think.
I've tried to rank my favorite Firefly episodes (http://poisonyoulove.livejournal.com/529805.html), and Shindig usually comes out on top. But if it were a situation where it would be the only episode I could watch, I don't know what I'd do!

[identity profile] jackwabbit.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
You like Home? Wow.

First person I've ever come across who has said that. And you think it's funny? Um...are we thinking of the same episode? Cuz, um...

*disturbed*

Moving on...all of those others rock. And if I went for funny, I couldn't name just one, but they'd all be there. Jose Chung is probably in my all time top five, though. Just perfection.

Glad you liked my OoG signage. It's the stories that make things special, so that one's a precious for sure!

[identity profile] poisonyoulove.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 07:18 am (UTC)(link)
Well, no, Home isn't really funny. Unless you laugh when you're shocked. That's what I enjoyed about the episode, it fills me with "OMGWTF?" And I love when shows get away with that. Nobody else likes it?
Maybe I am a horrible person. After all, I'm half-Reaver (on my dad's side).

[identity profile] jackwabbit.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, now I understand. Home is indeed television that pushes the envelope. My experience has been that it is too much for most folks. Just too far past the comfort level. Sure, the UberScully conversation is fun, and all the Andy Griffith jokes bring it a bit of desperately needed forced lightheartedness, but all in all it's just a horrifying experience to watch Home. Horrifying, not terrifying. Big difference. Home disgusts, not freaks out.

I know one fan who stopped watching after Home aired. I know many who just can't take it even now and haven't watched it since it first airing or skipped it entirely. It's the only episode of TXF to be not aired/banned by the BBC. I myself fell into the 'seen it but won't watch it again' camp for a long time. Since then, I have watched it a few times, but it's never going to be one I seek out. That's for sure. Only one episode of TXF scares me (Irresistible) but I watch that one. Home, on the other hand, just no.

That said, it is an extremely well done episode, and it is an amazing example of what you can get away with when you have the power of popularity on your side. It does break every boundary. And for that I do respect it and your choice of liking it.

[identity profile] poisonyoulove.livejournal.com 2009-02-04 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I think part of the reason Home always stood out for me is because I'd heard about it getting banned. I react strongly against that kind of thing. ;)
And I kind of enjoy getting grossed out/freaked out, to a certain extent.

Oh yeah, Irresistible is seriously creepy. Moreso because it's the kind of thing that could actually happen.

[identity profile] jackwabbit.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
I have only one thing to say about Irresistible:

"Is your hair normal, or dry?"

*ah! seriously scary shit!*

I, too, don't like banning and often read books just because they've been banned, etc. I like to know what I'm dealing with when presenting an argument against banning and censorship. That said, I saw Home long before I knew about its BBC issues...and yeah..not for me. Frankly, neither is Irresistible most times. Too scary. I don't do anything scary. TXF, in general, doesn't scare me a lick, so I can watch it, but I don't do any horror movies, etc. And I never will. Not for me. TXF is a bizarre aberration for me. Scary is not my style. Esp not scary that can happen. Scary stupid (like SLiTHER) is fine. Scary real? NO.

*sticks fingers in ears and closes eyes and refuses to ever, ever, ever see Silence of the Lambs even those she knows it's a great piece of cinema...never, ever, ever*

[identity profile] poisonyoulove.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
That's totally understandable. I like scary, but there are certain things I won't touch, like the Saw movies. I don't like torture.
Silence of the Lambs is extremely creepy, and the book freaked me out even more than the movie.

Wait . . . are you saying Slither can't happen?! heehee

[identity profile] jackwabbit.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
Of course it could, and one day it will. Only it will be a virus or a catastrophic event, or...any number of things.

I saw that! (Before I saw this!) Hee, hee, hee!

I love your choices!

I need to think on mine, but I am with you for these!
mmmmmmm...SG1 I'd go...hmmm...MAN I love The Other Side. For similar interplay in the team, I like Scorched Earth. There's always 200, etc. BUT I think I have to go for Paradise Lost. I like the way the ep was shot and the minimal dialogue, and, um, the Jack, and got some other reasons (*winks at wabbit*)

As for Out of Gas, see icon ;) (Me meeting Tim Minear! SQUEEEEEEEE!)

Holy Joss on a popsicle stick! I forgot all about Paradise Lost!

*beats self up more than a bit*

That ep would solve many problems when stranded. Honestly, though, I just picked the first OMG THIS EP IS SO GREAT ep that popped into my fron, though.

BTW, miss saying fron at work.

*makes note to teach someone new 'fron'*

Anyway...I'm ok with my choice. I picked it because it has lovely from everyone on the team, so...it's all good.

*kisses Paradise Lost and begs its forgiveness, then goes off to finish writing first XF fic ever*

Oh, but um, I'm glad you met Tim Minear, too, dear. SQUEE!

[identity profile] lemonpiefirefly.livejournal.com 2009-02-06 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Paradise Lost forgives you. And liked the kiss, I'm told.
You *DID*qualify with "at this very moment", which totally takes the curse off it, BTW.

Yes, you *do* need to spread them fron crumbs around.

I am glad I met Tim because of the "that was cool" factor, but mostly 'cause it gave me the opportunity to gather some cool to redistribute *Grin*

FIRST TXFic?!?!?! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOA!
*quivers with antici--------------
-wait for it-
--------PATION!*

Aw, thanks, Paradise Lost. *huggles it*

And ok, fron crumbs? *goes to text you*

As for the one called Tim...oh, yeah...you know it's above my desk, right? Right below (and next to and catty-cornered from) the Pauleys.

And that XF fic? Well, it's a bit like Mulder in Anasazi, if you catch my meaning. Or those kids in Deep Throat, one of whom now makes some chicken show now...

"Oh, if you were that stoned, what?"

Oh, yeah, it's like that.
