Glass Half Full - Of Words

So, I hit halfway today! WOOT!

AND...I listened to a Jimmy Buffett concert on Radio Margaritaville (he does broadcast them all live for free, you know) and got to hear Jimmy dedicate another Last Mango In Paris to Captain Tony, which made my night. I actually went out to the kitchen and found the last of my true Jamaican Rum Cream and lifted a toast to the old men...yep, both of them. Jimmy and Tony. (Here's hoping that Jimmy doesn't join the Captain for a good long time, though.) My favorite bit from Jimmy tonight was in the intro to said song, describing the old man himself:

"Cannonization? Maybe not. But cool? HELL YEAH!"

And that's a wrap.

Wow. 25k words and you started on November 1? You are the woman. All hail jackwabbit!

On a different subject, I noticed you have a great deal of Stargate fics. I just ordered (and received) from Netflix the first disc of season 1. I saw the movie years ago but as I perused through tv shows to get into I remembered you were a fan and that's when I made up my mind to give it a go.

I did indeed. I started on Nov 1 at about ten or so in the morning, when I got up. I wrote almost 9K that day, and by Mon PM I was at 15K. I had three days off and I had to start that way to make up for the days that I wouldn't write at all. I wrote a bit on Tues after work (the minimum daily total of like 1600) then another big chunk on Wed to bring me to about 20 K. I didn't write at all Thur or Fri. Too tired from work. I was off today, so another 5K. Ditto for tomorrow, hopefully. That's my goal. 5K on days off should take care of 50K for me this month, with my schedule (it's odd, don't ask).

To be honest, writing 2K in a day is pretty easy for me. I've been doing it for ages with fic off and on. However, doing it every day is brutal (since it's not my job), and pushing it up to 5K is painful.

And doing it on one topic? AGH! That's the killer! It's driving me CRAZY! In fact, my reward for getting to halfway is to allow myself to write something else! Give me Mal or Jack or Carson! Or all three! Let me write ten drabbles! Please?

Anyway...I digress.

As for SG, you are correct, I am a HUGE fan.

Like most shows, it takes a while to find its feet, but to be honest I was hooked from the get-go, as was my husband. We were loaned the DVDs by that demon that masquerades as [livejournal.com profile] lemonpiefirefly and as they say, the first one's free. They sat forever, but once we started, we watched at least two eps a night until we caught up with the broadcasts at the time, which I believe were in season eight.

I saw the movie, too, long ago...and I thought it was ok. I haven't seen it all the way through since. But the show...ah, for me, it is love. I am forever grateful to SG-1 for introducing me to creative writing as an adult. If I hadn't re-watched that episode (Beneath the Surface) that day (August 2006) and had the experience that I now know is termed 'being bitten by a bunny', I wouldn't be here. I wouldn't be doing NaNo, and I wouldn't have dear friends all over the world who improve the quality of my life more than they know.

Oh, and I'd have likely never finally gotten around to watching Firefly, either, since the inside Firefly jokes in SG's 200th episode finally kicked me in the butt to watch it.

Yeah...long live Stargate.

All hail da wabbit!

All hail the demoness LPFF!

And I'll let you write a drabble or two if you like, as a break, to flex a different set of muscles, as long as you promise to get back up and go back to the marathon aftwards. Ain't I generous?

Hugses,
Beth

Thank you, thank you, thank you...I'm here every night. Please leave a donation at the door. *grin*

Well, the drabble turned out to be a 350ish word ficlet, and it's in the sitting and waiting to post stage (if I still like it in a day or two). It also spawned two quickie sequels that I haven't done yet. *grin*

I also cleaned up some WIPs and organized them-getting two more to a postable level and making the others more workable for later (1 Firefly, 1 SGA, and 5 SG-1 WIPs right now, some of which are very old, plus a ton of bunnies and the monster X-over fic). Then I called it a night after playing some games for a bit.

It was back to the marathon today, thank you very much, oh generous one. I didn't start until about 1300, and I'm at 2809 new words and flowing well. I have to stop for a bit, though, and get the dogs to the park. That activity is never optional on a day off, so off I go! I'll be back in a few hours.

Oh, hey-I learned something, too! Since starting this, I've found that I can write about 1K an hour when I'm in writing mode. But if I disconnect the internet entirely, it jumps to 1.5K.

Imagine that.

YOU ROCK! *HUGS YOU MADLY*

I had a fight with the hubby last week, so I did not write SHIT for the last five days.

....but the plotbunnies are lurking...and I sense I will be held hostage this week until there is copious amounts of words being leaked onto the page....

[identity profile] jackwabbit.livejournal.com 2008-11-10 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
THANKS! I could use it. I had a fight with hubby yesterday/today and thus I haven't written much since, either.

Thus is life.

Damn men.

*sends virtual tea, cookies, and warm blankets for the you...and the bunnies, of course*

[identity profile] mishbloom.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
If you come bearing Daniel Jackson icons, I cannot be held responsible if I blubber like a small infant all over your LJ. Just so you're warned. *snuggles the icon and sniffles*

*hands you the booze* That's what I needed to get me through the weekend. After almost 15 years of marriage, you'd think we'd have all this drama and angst out of the way, y'know? *sigh* Nothing like a housefull of men to bring out the Nasty Bitch. GRRR.

My lazy ass did not get out of bed this morning, 'cause frankly I was just exhausted. BUT! There shall be writing this evening and tomorrow before work. I seem to be doing my best work in the mornings. I must just be dreaming something inspiring I guess! (Methinks it would be Flanigan-shaped. Hee.)

*SMOOCH* Have a good evening!

[identity profile] jackwabbit.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
And I cannot be held responsible if the icons just up and appear.

He does that! Damn archeologist!

Anyway...booze is appreciated. I'm ten years in...sigh...but all is well. I didn't write a word on my NaNo yesterday, if that makes you feel better...I wrote fic instead.

Mornings work best for me, too. Both ends of them.

[identity profile] mishbloom.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I am Swiping that icon!! OMIGOD! *hugs it like a mad bandit* Daniel, Daniel, Daniel.... I'm not going to be able to write my fic if you keep this up!

Hmmm...you're quite a bit ahead of me, dear. I'm around 16K at the moment, courtesy of four people who just would not leave me alone this morning. But they're all out of my house this evening, so I'm hoping to make that up. *crosses fingers and prays for peace in the household*

Here's to marriage...and all it's insanity. *holds up the bottle* Ooops, I think I drank it all. *eyes it unhappily*

[identity profile] jackwabbit.livejournal.com 2008-11-12 02:42 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a [livejournal.com profile] cleothemuse production. There's lots more where that came from!

I was stuck on my NaNo for a day or two-just sick of it and no really inspired way to get from point A to point B, so I wrote several Firefly fics instead. I'd like to edit and post them today, but I have to get a few K words in first, so I'm disconnecting my internetz now. Later!
