Movie Meme II - passed on from Lothithil

Name a movie that you really wish would be re-made so they’d get it right.

Sahara.

Name a book you’d like to see made into a movie.

Um...just can't think of any right now...

Name a book you hope is never made into a movie, because they’d ruin it.

No more Dirk Pitt adventures until they find the right Dirk.

Name a stage show (musical or not) you hope is never made into a movie, because they’d ruin it; or that you wish had never been made into a movie, because they did ruin it!

Les Miserables.

How often do you watch movies at home, as opposed to in the theatre? (The other half of the original question!)

A few times a week.

How many movies do you own?

Um...250?

How many TV shows (shows and/or number of seasons)?

X-Files 1-9, SG-1 1-10, SGA 1-3, MacGyver 1-7, Greatest American Hero 1-2, FIREFLY.

Any other DVD watchables that are neither movies nor TV shows?

Comedy performances, music/performance.  A few.

How often do you re-watch DVDs?

More often than I see new moves/shows, etc...by a LOT.

What’s your video equivalent of comfort food?

The X-Files, Stargate SG-1, Firefly - probably in that order.

Have you ever read a book because the movie was really good?

Yes. 'Jurassic Park'  And the recent talking animal movies made me read The Chronicles of Narnia, which somehow I'd missed as a kid.  (OH, wait...it wasn't Star Wars or Star Trek, so, um, OF COURSE I missed it!)

Have you ever read a book because the movie was really bad?

Nope.

Have you ever refused to see a movie because the book was really good? Really bad?

Probably the latter, but I don't recall.  And it took me forever to see Sahara because Dirk Pitt is the book hero love of my life.

Name a book that was made into a good movie, especially if you didn't think it could be done.

Lord of the Rings Trilogy.

Name a movie that you’d like to see re-made with your Dream Cast, and some key members of that cast.

Can't really think of one...unless you count the prequels.  You know, THE prequels.  This would be done, for one thing...

I guarantee that you shouldn't watch 'Raise the Titanic'... Richard Jordan was great as Dirk, but they f**ked up the story...not only did they mince the plot down to the bare-stony bones, they completely removed Al Giordino from the storyline!

*is appalled* HOW can you have Dirk Pitt without Al?? Impossible!

( I loved 'Sahara' but we can agree to disagree :-) )

(((JW)))

Yeah, I knew 'Raise The Titanic' was bad, and Clive completely disowned it and swore he'd never make another Dirk Pitt movie after it was so bad, etc, BUT then he made Sahara years and years later...and he was heavily involved...and he liked it...and he's Clive Cussler, so...my opinion doesn't really count.

I can't explain precisely what it was about Matthew that bothered me as Dirk, but something just wasn't right. And I didn't hate Sahara or anything, but it just wasn't right...for me...and I couldn't think of anything else...I suppose your answers colored mine a bit.

And that's completely ok.

Oh, the Prequels! The bane of my Star Wars existence! I've been an enormous fan since 1977 (yes, you read that right) and I still get a little angry at how badly you know who f***ed these up! I'm sure he screened them for his pals Spielberg & Coppola so why the hell didn't they let him know the awfulness that pervaded just about every second of them.

I did, however, like Liam Neeson, Ewan, Ian McDirmid, Samuel L., Christopher Lee, Darth Maul, Jango Fett, and some of the battles but what a @&%!&$ waste!

Sorry to rant all over your LJ but the Prequels kind of depress me.

Ranting fully understood and accepted and not minded one bit!

Ok, have to admit that I camped out for Episode I. Yes, camped out. As in, slept on the sidewalk camped out. Only for two days and one night, but yeah...camped out. Small enough town I could get away with just two days there.

And to be honest, I'm quite content to hear the music and see grappling hooks and other inside jokes, but COME ON! I believe in 'thank the maker' as much as anyone, but COME ON!

Episode I was abyssmal.

Episode II was, well, Yoda kicked ass.

Episode III was the best of the lot, and I will give GL serious credit for not wimping out...killing the younglings was just awesome...I mean, Darth Vader is a BAD man...make him be bad...ok, points there. And a blue-on-blue lightsaber battle...oh, be still my heart! And Ewan with 'you were my brother!' SQUA. EEE. But then...the end...lost the will to live??? WHAT!!!! WHAT???????

Ok, steps off soapbox now...goes to find Star Wars icons...

Breathes deeply...sigh...

I am so impressed you camped out! And you say ONLY for two days and one night?!

I agree about III. It would have been approaching ESB greatness except for the Anakin/Padme stuff. I may have been willing to overlook the complete lack of chemistry between the "star-crossed" lovers but having her die from a broken heart? Please! This is Leia's mother?! Losing the will to leave?!

Now I'm getting all fired up again. Must go rewatch the perfectly fantastic Empire to remind me why I love these movies so much.

[identity profile] jackwabbit.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, yes. Camped out. Ate Star Wars fruit snacks and drank Pepsi because Yoda was on the box and played Star Wars trivial pursuit and Star Wars Monopoly...yeah, it's like that.

Didn't wear my costume for camping out. Only did that for the movie.

Yes, I have a costume.

I may write Stargate and Firefly, but oh...Star Wars...

There's always a special spot in your heart for your first love.

Go watch Empire. Rock on.

"Echo three to echo seven. Han, old buddy, go you read me?"

"Echo three to echo seven. Han, old buddy, go you read me?"

You're my hero.

Thank you for the laugh, my friend!

Need it much.

Trying to write a Firefly fic as we 'speak', but...well...having fun here...

You know I have a dog named Hobie, right?

Goes by Hobie Wan Kenobi.

Oh, yes. He does.

[identity profile] charlie-bz.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, you are seriously shaming me in the Star Wars fan department. Camping out. Costumes (BTW what were you or do you have multiple costumes?). Dog naming.

I'm such a loser! All I have is ALL the Marvel comics, the books, every blasted version of the VHS tapes and DVDS, the SW soundtrack ALBUM, the SW radio show, a Princess Leia doll whose hair bun things came out, and, get this, a husband who has NEVER seen Star Wars. (He did take me to see AOTC for my birthday but that movie certainly did not make him a fan. I'm kinda surprised he didn't divorce me after I made him sit through it!)

[identity profile] jackwabbit.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I don't have the comics. I haven't read all the books. I do have like four VHS and DVD versions, though (who doesn't?). No soundtrack album (you go, girl!) and no doll. But I damn skippy wore my hair like that when I was little, and I DO have the 'read along with me' stories for Empire and Jedi.

A few figures here and there.

A few autographs...well...three that I can think of...

And a home-made Jedi costume. It's not the best, but it gets the point across. My hubby (who only tolerate my sci-fi addiction, but does not really share it) made it. The dogs have one, too. Previous dog? Molly Wan Kenobi. To be fair, neither Molly or Hobie was named for SW per se...it just works to add the surname. However, my youngest dog IS named Stormtrooper...and yeah...it's from SW. Suits him.

As for your hubby, well...these things happen.

Thus is life.

Well, he can't be all bad, then!!!

[identity profile] charlie-bz.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
Further impressedness from me on your icon usage.

[identity profile] jackwabbit.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
I made that one!!! (And this one!) Proud of them, too! (Just got photoshop, I did!)

THANKS AND FINS UP!!!

[identity profile] jackwabbit.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
I GOT ME SOME ICONS!!!!!!!!

WOOOOOOOO-HOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

(Yes, I am easily amused...what is the problem?)

Oh, and you will see my leanings in such icons...but that's ok.
