NaNo Day 4 (Or is it 5?)
So, here I am, at 0208, writing a bit...I know, I know, I know...I wasn't going to write today, but here we are anyway...
Turning in a respectable 2045 in two hours tonight (I started after the election was over here in the states).
17,107 for the running total! That's 34.2%. Yay!
PS-You know how I love Wil Wheaton? Well, here's a good part of why-Wil on NaNo:

I respected Wil Wheaton as an actor and a person even though I didn't care greatly for his TNG character either -- especially not at first. He did a lot more, with a lot less, than most would have been able to do.

My favorite part was this:
"I never considered that most actors go their entire careers without one film like Stand By Me to their credit."
Ok, so that's actually NOT my favorite quote, because I can't pick just one, but it's the first one that is bookmarked with a little yellow sticky that I turned to in my copy, so it will do. And it is the one I reference most in my daily life when I try to remind myself that I don't have things that badly when something goes awry.
This one is early in the book, which is a journey from disenchanted teenage star to grateful actor to caring father and insecure writer.
Star Trek plays a big role in the book, but I think anyone who knows much about fandom would enjoy it.
After all, Wil says this, too:
"Performing well at a convention is extremely important to me. I care about what the fans think. I don't write them off or take them for granted. I know that they've spent a large part of their disposable income on this show, and I want to make sure they get their money's worth. I remember how I felt when WILLIAM FUCKING SHATNER dismissed me on the set of Star Trek V. That feeling of humiliation and disenchantment is easy for me to recall, and I do everything I can to ensure that I don't inflict it upon another person. When I'm on stage, the only real difference between me and the people I'm talking to is that I got paid to wear the spacesuit. I'm a huge science fiction geek. I've been attending conventions since I was in the fifth grade, and I know what it's like when a guest is only there to take the fans' money."
Yep...he's one of us...and I am glad.
And once again, I mourn that I removed my Wil icon from my userpics a while ago...sigh...good old Jonathan will have to do. He gets Wil's vote of coolness, so it's all good.
(He also offered to beat up WILLIAM FUCKING SHATNER, along with Michael Dorn, after the insult mentioned above...but for that gem, you'll have to read the book.)
