Snurched from Charlie

Okay, so I played around on this a bit. For the beast (Command Decisions), I got James Joyce, no matter what chapter I picked. For my drabbles, I generally got J.D. Salinger. I got Bram Stoker once or twice and Stephen King once. Oh, and apparently when I write John Druitt, I sound like Dan Brown. But this? Oh, this cracks me up.

I tried to pick one or two fics from each of my fandoms. I realized I hadn't picked a Harry Potter one, so I clicked Hall of Heroes, which is probably my favorite. Result? You guessed it.

I write like
J. K. Rowling

I played around with it for a while also -- Reverb mostly gets Stephen King, with occasional Dan Brown (ugh). Shorter segments get James Joyce (!) or H. G. Wells (!!) Aftershocks consistently got J. D. Salinger, while Up a Long Ladder got Douglas Adams or James Joyce again.

Then I went over to ff.net, copied a couple of thousand words of the most appalling piece of unreadable, incoherent dreck I could find quickly -- the kind with bad spelling, no punctuation, etc. -- and tried that.

Oscar Wilde.

Given the opacity of the methodology, I have my doubts as to whether it's anything more than a random name generator . . .

As do I. I selected three sections from the same novel-length story and got "Dan Brown", "Stephen King", and "P.G. Wodehouse".

Um... okay...

Oh, yeah. It so totally is. I just got a kick out of that.

I tried some other HP fics later and got Rowling for all of them. I figure maybe the programmers set a few words as screening tools or whatever. If it sees "Sirius Black," for example, it pings Rowling. Probably did that with a few things and maybe length for some others or something. Or just random.
