Ilya was well acquainted with losing.

Even with his talent and skills, you didn’t get to his level of play without some bitter disappointments along the way.

So he’d long since learned he couldn’t win all the time.

But he’d always been competitive.

He’d always been able to at least score a few goals.

And not just on the ice.

When he wanted something – or for that matter, someone – he’d always at least had a shot.

Until now.

Because he couldn’t compete with her.

And he had no idea how to even play when he wasn’t in the same league.
